“Enjoyable!”
Reviewed 10 October 2013

We had 1 night in a cottage because the motel was full, but we enjoyed having a kitchen/table and had cooked lobsters delivered! The cottage was quite small, but fine for two people. Then we stayed 1 night in the motel. The room must have been updated fairly recently and was huge! The location, right on the water of Salisbury Cove, was quiet with a nice view.

When we were planning our summer vacation in July (we've always been late starters), my husband said "Let's go back to Edgewater. I love that place." I couldn't agree more so now the problem with finding a room. We had stay here for many years, so many in fact that they used to save the first two weeks in August for us. We couldn't count on that any more. A quick email and we found out they were booked solid. We spent the next couple of days trying to decide where it was that we were going to stay. Then my husband decided to try one more time, a call this time.
HIs grin when he got off the phone tells it all. Six days in the motel were ours. Life is good. The first time we stayed at Edgewater it was being run from the kitchen of the main house out by the road. David was a teenager and now he has a teenager who was off to college when we visited. Happy to report that it is the same peaceful place. Large, comfortable room, deck, beautiful view, and a full kitchen enticing enough to make us eat in most nights. What restaurant has a view like this? David and Jayne are extraordinary hosts. We spent a lot of time catching up with them and with his dad. I guess we consider ourselves a part of the Bowden family. And it sure nice to come home. Thanks David and Jayne.

We stayed in one of the motel rooms Edgewater last week for 5 nights last week and can only say good things about it. The room was very roomy with a sitting area and 3 recliners. The balcony, also with comfortable chairs, was right on the water. We saw eagles, loons, kingfishers, grebes, a seal, etc. It was so peaceful and convenient to the Park and Bar Harbor. Squeaky clean and very comfortable beds. This was a very good value for the money. We will return.

We stayed in cottage 3 August 17-24th. We couldn't have been happier with our stay. We were looking for a rustic cabin on the water with peace and quiet, but accessible to all activities. This wound up being the perfect place!!! This is not a 4 star all the perks you can get place. This place however is the absolute perfect way to experience Maine in all its glory and appreciate what the surroundings have to offer.

The owners are very helpful and wonderful greeters. They gave us a quick rundown of Mount Desert Island and Acadia. They had wonderful suggestions for places to eat and off the beaten path sites. Every morning they were always quick with a smile and a hello.

We are seasoned travelers and have stayed in the best of places, but also love a nice relaxing simple vacation. We couldn't have been more pleased. The cottage was small, but so cozy and inviting. It was also very clean beyong belief when we arrived and stayed that way through out the week. Cottage 3 is right on the water, with only 1 cottage on the other side of you. Its beautiful to have your tea/coffee in the morning out on the chairs, or the rocks and watch the water and the lobster boats. Also you may have the occasional visitor of 1 or 2 cats...one was Deliliah, and I found out, cottage 3 is their favorite. They are very friendly and love to sit on the rocks as well. If you have your own Kayak, and think you will have some down time, consider bringing it, its the pefect cove for a relaxing paddle.

The kitchen was small, with a 2 electric burner cook top. The fridge is a pretty good size and the utensils and pots and pans are pretty good quality. The burners are in a weird akward corner, but as a chef...I've been in worse kitchens in NYC!! We cooked breakfast most mornings there and 1 or 2 dinners. There is also a coffee maker and a toaster. I did bring my own knives and a pan, but what was provided was very good to use. Good cabinet space too if you bring snacks and cereal or such.

The cottages are accessible to everything with in a short drive. We were in Acadia everyday and one of the main accesses is close by, about a 5-10 minute drive. Bar harbor is about 10-15 minutes depending on traffic and we never really had trouble parking. Just give yourself time to find a place, we never took more than 5 minutes to find parking, but sometimes we were a few blocks up from the main street. We also took drives to the southern part of MDI and the Western shores as well, again, all easy 20-30 minute drives. There's a winery close by and a brewery too. Definetly get the weekly car pass at Acadia.

The sunsets are the most beautiful I've seen, and right on our cove. The grounds are very well maintained but not overdone ot take away from the natural beauty of the area. We loved getting up and just sitting at the table with the windows open and having breakfast watching the water, or sitting outside. We were never hot and the breeze is beautiful at night. There is a small heater in the cottage if a cold snap comes through one night. The grounds are very quiet and we spoke with other visitors who we found were repeat vacationers at this place. Parking is close to your cottage or right next to it, and specific spots for specific cottages, which was nice. There are also grills on the grounds as well. They also have a person who comes around each day to make your bed, sweep and take out your garbage. There is storage under the bed to keep your luggage out of the way and side storage which was perfect for laundry with out taking up drawer space. There's also a small area to hang clothes with hangers.

We would recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice relaxing and nature inspired stay. It was so hard to leave this peaceful and quiet gem. We look forward to coming back here again in the future.

Room Tip: Cottage 1,2 and 3 are right on the water. Cottage 3 we stayed in was perfect for 2 people, it is sma...

We stayed three nights in Room 28, which was a very large upper level room in the motel section, There is a small sofa and comfortable arm chair. The king bed and pillows were great. The room appeared to be recently remodeled. The entrance door had a heavy screen door with a sturdy lock, so with the sliding window open and the main door open a nice breeze flowed through. The deck had enough space for four people to enjoy sitting. The room was very clean and vacuumed daily. We had nice quiet nights of sleep.

We really thank the owner who alerted us to a parade in Ellsworth the morning we were leaving. We are not from this area, and he gave us directions so that we did not get stuck in parade detours and traffic!

The only disadvantage was the drive to eat at restaurants.

Room Tip: 28 in the motel is an end room so no one on one side.

This was a quiet perfect place to stay to explore Bar Harbor. We stayed in one of the cottages close to the water. The little kitchen was well stocked and nice. The only drawback was there was no place to put our luggage except the floor. Getting to old to do all that bending over. The linens and couch needed updated but otherwise we loved it.

We have stayed here for the past 8 years and absolutely love this establishment. There are beautiful views of Salisbury Cove. It is always clean and ready for us when we arrive. Our cottage included a small kitchen equipped with pots, pans, coffee maker, etc. and full size refrigerator. There is a nice deck with table and chairs where you can enjoy your morning coffee, evening dinner or anything in between. It is quiet and the grounds are well maintained. The owners live on the property, have always been very polite and promptly handled the few problems we encountered. AND It is located only 2.5 miles from the entrance to Acadia National Park
