Spent 2nd week of October there with my wife. Stayed in the Motel. Both motel & cottages have great views on the water front. Not the newest place, but great for the money. Used fireplace each night, very romantic. Large sliding glass doors with beautiful Bay view. Lobster boats moored in the bay. Off the road, so absolutely no traffic noise. Comfortable bed - for us. Owner made us feel right at home. Very knowledgeable of local area. Helped us pick out the best tour boat and lobster pound. No he doesn't take credit cards, but he lets you know that up front. We looked at a lot of more expensive places, but chose this one for $$ versus what you get. Would stay there again & recommend to others.

The hotel has the best view right on the beach and very clean but outdated. It's about 10 minutes driving to Bar Harbor downtown. The owner is very helpful and provided very good information. Highly recommend this place.

Stayed for 2 days in June in the "Hayloft". Absolutely wonderful. From the ship inspired loft to the fireplace and finely chosed linens, this place far exceeded our expectations. The turn of the century hayloft had original archetictual detail still in tact that were incorporated into the remodel. The hosts were extremely knowledgeable and gracious. Sits right on the water. I would return.

We stayed in cottage #9. Old old appliances - fridge and stove and not very inviting for cooking. Entire cottage had a tired feeling. Faucet on sink looked original. Great water pressure in the shower ! stand back. Great location - quiet and close to restaurants ( fortunately), Bar Harbor, and Acadia National Park.

My husband and I just returned from an extra long weekend in Bar Harbor. When choosing a place to stay, I was hesitant to stay somewhere that you had to drive 10 minutes into town. We are so glad that we chose Edgewater. I honestly don't think we could have been happier anywhere else. The owners, David and Jane, were wonderful and very helpful with all of our questions. We stayed in the motel in room 23. At first I thought I might be disappointed not being in one of the cottages, but the motel was great. It's very well equipped-right down to a wine bottle opener. The room was remarkably clean and the water pressure in the shower was awesome (I hate when there's no water pressure)! We were also a little apprehensive about the lack of air conditioning. Maine was experiencing some of the warmest weather in years but with the cool air coming off of the bay we were actually chilly at night! The water view is gorgeous and the area is so peaceful. This is a one-of-a-kind establishment and was such a surprising enhancement to our fabulous vacation. DO NOT HESITATE TO STAY HERE!!!!!! Unless you're looking for the hustle & bustle and crowds in town, you can't possibly go wrong with the Edgewater. We can't wait to visit again next summer!

I traveled in July of 2009 with my husband and daughter (age 9) to the Bar Harbor area. We looked on line ahead of time at the popular spots in down town Bar Harbor and because of the scary prices and not knowing the area at all we were unsure of where to stay. We ended up not booking anything ahead of time. Please note that we only did this because we were traveling up on a Sunday. Many places book up in advance and I wouldn't reconmend doing this.

We traveled up to the area and explored for a place to stay and found the Edgewater Motel and Cottages. We stayed in the Motel because these were the only rooms left available and we loved it. It was by far the best value we found in the area. You have direct beach access and was perfect for my daughter. We sat on the porch/deck while she was able to explore the sea shore. it was very quiet and relaxing.

The rooms in the motel are very dated, but very clean. We would love to go back and spend a week. The only thing I would do different is book a week in a cottage next time. The cottages are the same price point as the motel rooms. The motel room ran us about 139 a night during high season. The owners were very helpful and business has been in the family since the 1920's.
