We chose the Atlantean Cottage based on Trip Advisor reviews and we are glad we did.The location is perfect. It's on a quiet side street and it's an easy walk to restaurants and shops. In addition to gourmet breakfasts, the hosts are very knowledgeable and accommodating with restaurant suggestions, directions and things to do. Acadia National Park was closed during our stay due to the government shutdown. This was a bummer since the park was the main reason we were going to Bar Harbor. Gary came to the rescue and suggested an area where we could park and walk in. We did just that and had a memorable hike along the coast.
The inn itself is a gem. Clean and well appointed rooms, pleasant sitting area, great hosts and location. I even bought a couple of Atlantean coffee cups to remind me our our stay. If you are travelling to Bar Harbor, this is the place to stay.

Hands down, this was the best bed and breakfast we've ever stayed in! We were there for four nights in July, in the Baymeath Room. This is a grand, historic home, maintained meticulously. Our bedroom was immense, with a large, comfortable king-sized bed. And the bathroom had been recently redone, complete with a large rain shower. We are both fussy sleepers, and we could not have been more comfortable throughout our stay. The location is perfect, just a few blocks from the heart of Bar Harbor, and there was lots of convenient parking behind the house.

Gary and Heidi are ideal innkeepers--answering and anticipating questions, always around and friendly yet unobtrusive, and ensuring that every part of a guest's stay goes smoothly. They are wonderful cooks--from the muffins and cookies and fruits laid out each day to the breakfasts. We had a frittata one morning that was, frankly, as good a breakfast as either of us has ever had! They also helped us enormously in planning hikes and trips around Acadia National Park, directing us to Pemetic Mountain, which we wound up hiking two different days on our trip. And they also gave us lots of good advice regarding restaurants.

In short, this is the very model of a bed and breakfast--living up to the highest standards of a small boutique hotel, with a personal touch (and amazing food!). We can't wait to get back to Bar Harbor, and the Atlantean is a big reason why.

We stayed here for 2 nights on a New England drive and were not disappointed. The cottage is beautiful, clean and welcoming. We chose our room (Tallyrand) because it had a sauna in the shower and a real open fire, it looked good in the picture, but oh it was so much better in real life!! What a wonderful, stylish room with the most comfortable four poster bed and a beautiful bathroom. And that sauna was fantastic, what a way to end the day of touring the area than a sauna and sitting in front of a log fire! Breakfast was delicious and plentiful and the butlers pantry was the best we experienced in our tour, Gary and Heidi have thought of absolutely everything!
We visited the Acadia National Park and spent a full day there, thanks to Heidi for providing us with a cd which we popped into the car's player and took us around the park, it was a mine of information and historical facts and we certainly wouldn't have learned so much if we hadn't had it, so thanks again and if you plan to visit this beautiful park, ask Heidi for it!!
As other reviews have said, there is a reason why the Atlantean Cottage is number 1- it's because it's the best!!

Room Tip: The Tallyrand does not disappoint! If you like a sauna, choose this room

Everyone says this place is great and it is! Gary and Heidi are simply the best kind of hosts. They make you feel so welcome and are ready to share their obvious love for the island they call home. They really 'know' their location and were ready with suggestions - walks, drives, restaurants, best lobster pound - to make the most of our visit to a beautiful part of the world. Breakfast each morning was a gourmet feast prepared by Gary (I want those recipes!) and afternoon tea treats were a yummy surprise. They are making an effort to be as 'green' as they can using local produce, natural products in the bathroom and even have drink bottles to refill each day. All this and a beautifully appointed room just a short stroll from the main street!

My husband & I and another couple we're staying in Bar Harbor for a couple of days and found this gem. I can't say enough positive things about the accomodations (VERY tastefully done and comfortable), the location (EASY walk into Bar Harbor), food ("Chef" Gary provided unique gormet meals that would make any Foodie's mouth water) and the hospitality (Gary and Heidi were welcoming, warm & friendly, and offered great travel suggestions). We arrived later than we had planned but were greated with a smile. After a long day in Arcadia, we sat outside under the pergola and enjoyed a bottle of wine and cheese. If you are planing to stay in a B&B in this area I don't think you could find any better.

Room Tip: My tip would be to look at the bathroom 'options': being "shower" people, we had t...

I can only repeat what others have said about the Atlantean. It is obvious the pride Gary and Heidi take in their renovated historic house, which has been lovingly undertaken over the years since they bought the property. The breakfast each morning was something we looked forward to, and Gary and Heidi made us feel so welcome and were the perfect hosts. The property was in walking distance to the village and we really enjoyed the walk along the shoreline, as well as trying out a number of the restaurants. It is no surprise they are rated so highly. Thank you so much for looking after us, and a special hug for the 'mighty' Fin.

The Atlantean Cottage is a beautifully restored historic home. We stayed in Wingwood which is the only first floor room. We found the room to be quiet and private. The room was large and tastefully decorated with quality antiques and tasteful modern pieces. We enjoyed the gas fireplace and the private entrance and porch. The bathroom was very large and modern. Breakfast and the afternoon snacks were delicious. Gary and Heidi were perfect hosts and made us feel welcome and comfortable. Atlantean has a great location being within walking distance to shops and restaurants.
