Dear Iris Z,
I am sorry that you were not happy with your accommodations and that this was not resolved while you were here. I would be more than happy to speak with you if you would not mind contacting me directly at 207-288-5801 x1311.
We have 2 pool both indoor and outdoor and 2 hot tubs and I have not had any complaints on them this season. We recently upgraded our internet and WiFi property wide to allow guests access to more band width.
Again I apologize for your issues and hope that you will return.
Our daughter arrived at this hotel a day prior to my wife and me. When I asked her what the hotel was like, she replied that it was "okay" and that pretty much sums up my thoughts. The rooms are fine (we had 4209 & 4210) -- they were clean and comfortable, but were a bit worn. The property is not very interesting. While it is on the water, the adjacent property is very ugly and the waterfront is not very nice. The included breakfast was not worth the calories so we instead ventured into town and paid for breakfast at Jeannie's, which was quite good. The hotel is close to Bar Harbor (about a mile walk to the town) but not where the action is. The outdoor pool was freezing in August and the hot tub was not hot or even warm. The room keys are electronic cards and if you lose one it will cost you ... I seem to recall the fee is $15.
In summary, we saw a lot of what appeared to be nicer hotels in downtown Bar Harbor that were closer to the action and had better waterfront vistas. My advice would be to investigate those before committing to the Atlantic Oceanside.
I'm staying here right now and I must say that this hotel has been awful from the point we made our reservation. I booked a pet friendly specific room in the hotel for 3 nights, but when I called a month later, I found out they gave away my room and didn't have any pet friendly rooms left. They didn't offer any solution until I asked if there was a portion of the trip for which they did have a pet friendly room - so I had to shorten my stay here to 2 nights and stay at the Quality Inn Bar Harbor for 1 night. And they refused to help me change my reservation, instead saying I could only make changes through my booking agency (Hotwire, but that is NOT a hotwire policy).
I've been here for one night and one day so far and this place is extremely overpriced and overrated. The room is not easily accessible for those who are handicapped or have physical ailments. I requested a handicap friendly room, but there are about 5 steep steps that I need to take to get down to the walkway to my room, and the entrance is another step back up. The room is dark and there are cobwebs on the floor in multiple corners. The ceiling height ranges between 7' 6" and 8'. At my short height of 5'3", I can extend my arm straight up and reach the ceiling and ceiling fan. Combine this short height with the dim lighting, cobwebs and cold tile floor, and you feel like you're camping in a cave. We paid over 200 per night to camp in a cave? I'm sorry, but that just isn't acceptable. The beds are extremely uncomfortable to sleep on. They have no cushioning and it seems the box springs underneath don't work anymore. Don't expect a good night's rest here. All the pictures on the website are of the mansion section of the hotel, but end up as a complete misrepresentation of the actual room you get.
The free breakfast consists of juices, bagels, english muffins, sliced bread, blueberry muffins, individually packaged cereals and fresh fruit. There is hot food cooked to order available for purchase, but we didn't have time to try it.
I will say that positives are:
Decent water pressure in the shower
Microwave and fridge in the unit
The hotel has a nice view
The AC cools the room down okay
And the overwhelming list of negatives:
Beds dip down when you sit on a side to get in
Beds and chairs in room are uncomfortable
Not handicap accessible
Vanity in bathroom has no room for toiletries
Poor customer service on the phone
The AC is loud
I am very sorry that you did not enjoy your stay with us. I wanted you to know that I have tried to contact you to offer my apologies and to make amends for your dissatisfaction.
I have looked through all the notes in your reservation and feel I need to point out a few things.
Your stay was booked through Hotwire and not directly with us. Hotwire reservations are discounted because they are prepaid and non-changeable nor cancel able. I see that you called us to request a pet friendly room which we put you into and did not charge the $35 extra fee for your 2 dogs.
I am fully aware that it was your anniversary as I had a congratulations card and sparkling cider brought to your room.
Most importantly I am sorry that neither you nor my staff brought your dissatisfaction to my attention while you were still here, this way I could have personally tried to make things right with you.
Our website has many different pictures on it as we have several different buildings.
Again I apologize that we were not able to provide you with the experience that you were looking for.
The hotel is close enough to the Bar Harbor activities, but just far enough away to be peaceful and serene. Our suite was in a newer building with important essentials for our family, a balcony with a view, clean, neat, modern décor. The staff was friendly and courteous. We utilized the shuttle into town each night. The price was reasonable for our accommodations. The hotel had other amenities we did not have time to use. Would not recommend the restaurant in the hotel.
Dear E. Hanover,
Thank you for staying with us and for your review on TripAdvisor, we truly appreciate hearing from our guests.
All my best,
The Atalntic Oceanside is beautifully located by the shore and has several buildings. I stayed in one of the two small Oceanside buildings that have huge rooms and balconies with the most amazing view. Staff are very nice and in spite of a day-long power cut due to a storm, they kept thee good service and a smile on their faces. The hotel provides a good complimentay breakfast breakfast, free wifi and there's a very convenient shuttle to Bar Harbor center.
On the minus side bathrooms are quite small and there was an ice machine outside, not far from the bedroom door, which on a night when it was constantly being used was very noisy.
Thank you for staying with us recently and for your nice review, I sincerely appreciate it.
We stayed here this past weekend (8/15 & 8/16). Our reservation was made through booking.com. I didn't realize that I was making our reservations through booking.com until it came time to give my credit card information. I prefer to deal directly with the hotel that I am making a reservation at and going forward I will make sure. Booking.com was the first website that came up and my fault for not seeing this. Perhaps that is why we were given a room in what I consider the basement. I didn't want a patio, I wanted a balcony. Upon our arrival I overheard one of the ladies working the front desk call and ask a guest if they were happy with their room. No one called me and asked if I was happy with my room. If they had, I certainly would have told them I was very unhappy. I planned this weekend several months ago to celebrate my son's birthday. I didn't want to ruin our stay be complaining about the room but my son wasn't happy either. We had very poor cellphone service. I was uncomfortable with the patio entrance to our room. Had I been staying their alone I would have checked out. You state in your advertisement that every room has a balcony. I don't consider a patio a balcony. The continental breakfast was fair. Overall I would have to say that I was very disappointed in what was supposed to a very special time for me and my son. Also, the beds were hard and uncomfortable.
Dear Christina M,
I am so sorry that you were disappointed with the room during your recent stay here at the Atlantic Oceanside Hotel. We do have many different room types and buildings and we would always prefer to deal directly with our guests so that we can place you in the proper room based on room attributes, price and availability.
Please contact me directly and I'll look closer into your reservation.
