Stone Throw completely exceeded my expectations. The house was up to date with new appliances and furniture that were still as charming as you would expect at a B&B. The owners were helpful and pleasant to chat with. They made delicious breakfasts every morning. The house was in a great location, easy walk into town. My favorite part was the back porch, which had comfortable seating and a nice view of their huge backyard. Also the beds. SO comfortable! I could have stayed forever.

Room Tip: The house itself was very quiet but the front rooms look out onto a semi-busy street, so choose a back facing room if you have the option!

Lindsay, thank you for the great review. I'm catching up on some TA responses, winter project. Thanks, too, for your tip about road noise. It's caused a lot of people to ask about room location, rooms 1, 4, and 6 are on the front. Hopefully the problem will go away this spring as the road is being repaved and therefore, no more potholes and banging trucks.

Come back and see us again.
Jerry

The Stone Throw Cottage is a rare find among what seems to be a cacophony of choices in Bar Harbor and the hosts and their family are what make the difference. There is no doubt in my mind that we will be returning!

Lodging:
This quaint home, appropriately named and perfectly designed for use as a B&B, made us feel immediately at home. Located extremely close to downtown (and a grocery store) allowed us to leave the car keys in the room and take in the town on foot. If you are anything like us, cleanliness is usually the determining factor regarding a possible return and we were all very impressed with how immaculately clean the entire cottage was kept. Bathrooms, bedrooms, floors, sheets, dishes, and common areas all looked and felt clean, fresh, and crisp! The bedrooms were well equipped with a queen bed, dresser, two suitcase stands, individual thermostat, jetted tub/shower in the bathroom and a convenient reading lamp on the headboard. There was even a small fridge in the common area so guests could let a bottle of wine chill to enjoy later that evening with the available wine glasses!

Cooking:
I have yet to have a bad experience with food at a B&B, yet I was blown away by the eggs benedict, lemon-zest pancakes and fruit parfait with which we were treated! This stay was quite noteworthy, however, due to Jerry & Kim's experience with a gluten-free menu. Due to their experience with a family member diagnosed with Celiac disease, Kim and Jerry were surprisingly well prepared to accommodate our gluten-free party, which is not usually the case. If you have dietary restrictions, this is the place that will embrace your needs without the slightest hint of judgement that can often come with special requests.

Customer Service:
From the moment we arrived, I was overwhelmed by the hospitality shown from Jerry and Kim as well as the rest of their family (including their daughter and niece). They were extremely friendly, welcoming, and went above and beyond in regards to ensuring our stay was enjoyable. We were given a brief overview of the town, highlighting pertinent information about the cottage as well as the town, and also received a town map showing some points of interest. When we shared our plans for the trip, the entire family was very well equipped with personal hints and tips that proved quite valuable for our excursions, be it which carriage trails to ride, which hikes to tread, how to navigate the free shuttle system, or which restaurants to try. When we mentioned hiking through the park, Jerry's niece made sure we knew about the Chimani Acadia iPhone app which includes a map with trails, points of interest, and shows your location via GPS- which was extremely helpful as we climbed the famed Precipice Trail!

Overall, I cannot say enough of Kim and Jerry and their love for sharing Bar Harbor and Acadia with other travelers. You would be remiss if your visit to Maine did not include a stay at this remarkable cottage. My only concern is that we will all have to make our reservations quite early as I am certain vacancies will soon become a rarity for this superb establishment!

My wife and I spent four nights at the Stone Throw Cottage at the end of July while celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. The afternoon we arrived, Jerry greeted us warmly at the door and promptly gave on overview of things to do and favorite restaurants in Bar Harbor. Both Jerry and Kim were exceptional hosts and always interested in our daily excursions. Our room (room #3 at the top of the stairs) was very clean and overlooked the back yard and gardens. The queen bed was very comfortable and although the room had an air conditioner, we did not need it as we slept with the windows open. Our room's bathroom was quite large with a painted sink, Jacuzzi tube and very good shower pressure. Each day the housekeeping left a different type of chocolate treat on our dresser, which was greatly appreciated.

The Stone Throw Cottage is located in an ideal location, only a short walking distance to all of the shops and restaurants in Bar Harbor, but far enough away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Bar Harbor. In addition, the B&B's off-street parking was very appreciated.

Morning breakfasts were extraordinary and the highlight of our stay: Lemon soufflé pancakes with blueberry compote and bacon; Apple, cheese and prosciutto waffles; Eggs benedict, Raspberry french toast with egg frittata. In addition to the hot entrees, Kim and Jerry provided breads for toasting, yogurt with granola, fruit, coffee, juices and milk. Each morning, Kim would explain the hot entree and ask everyone if that was o.k., then they would make the entrees as guest arrived to ensure all entrees were hot and tasty. Needless to say, after these breakfasts we were ready for a day of hiking in nearby Acadia National Park or touring Bar Harbor. In the afternoon, there always was lemonade, hot water for tea, and either cookies or blueberry crumble out for the guests.

For being in the B&B hospitality business for only a short while, Jerry, Kim, staff, (and Buddy the dog) have figured out how to make guests feel very comfortable. We would highly recommend the Stone Throw Cottage to anyone staying in Bar Harbor!

Room Tip: Rooms in the back of the B&B face the backyard and gardens, and therefore, do not have as much noise from the main street in front of the B&B

We recently made a trip to Bar Harbor and then on to Canada. Along the way we stayed at numerous B&Bs. Stone Throw Cottage was the best of the places we stayed. We were very careful about our reservations only to book at the best we could find. Jerry and Kim were gracious hosts. The breakfasts were the best we had anywhere. Jerry made a special take away breakfast for us when we went on an early morning whale watching trip. Our room was clean, comfortable and well appointed. Jerry was very helpful and his travel advice was spot on. We would stay here again and would recommend it to our friends. The off street parking was helpful. We had uninterrupted internet service. The mid day snacks were great and the unlimited early morning self serve coffee was superb. Great place to say!

My husband an I spent 3 lovely nights in Bar Harbor at the Stone Throw Cottage. Our host and hostess, Jerry and Kim, could not have been more gracious and accommodating during our stay at their B&B. Upon our arrival we were warmly greeted by Jerry, and we were made to feel right at home. Jerry and Kim go the extra mile to make a stay at the Stone Throw memorable. Breakfast was different and delicious each morning with additional breakfast items available to munch on immediately upon entering the dining area. Fresh baked cookies of a different sort each day are available in the afternoon. Jerry and Kim are even sensitive to a visitor's need for gluten free food too! Wow, huh! We were there during the World Cup matches, and while we were watching the match on TV, a plate of 2 different cheeses and crackers were brought in for our enjoyment. Wow again, huh! The B&B itself is pristine, comfortable, and just so eye appealing. Each of the bedrooms is decorated in a different way, but you will notice a Rose theme throughout the house. There is one room with a King size bed, and all the others are Queen size. It only takes an easy walk to get to the center of the action in Bar Harbor, and Jerry has some great ideas
for restaurants, as well as fun activities in the area. Jerry and Kim are at the center of why this B&B is so wonderful, and part of the fun of staying here is to enjoy having conversations with them. I predict The Stone Throw will jump to the number one B&B in bar Harbor soon.
