“One Night Stay- Excellent”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 June 2012

I booked last minute for my room for a work trip. After booking I realized that the date I booked for was for the following night. Quickly called Moseley Cottage Inn and the person who answered the phone was out walking her dog but said she'd fix it without a problem as soon as she returned. She was very pleasant and helpful. I arrived that evening, cookies & scones in the reception area. They looked awesome but I held off. When for a nice 3 mile run which ended running on the shore path. This is a MUST do whether you walk or run. Access is very close!

Walked into town for a little shopping. Dropped my bag back off at my room in the motel. Then, as suggested by the motel, walked to McKay's Public House to have dinner and a drink at the bar. Very nice and quiet. Asked the bar tender to turn the Red Sox game and enjoyed a salad and wonderful mussels. Wine was good too.

Room at the motel was simple, clean and quiet. Wi-fi access was easy to connect. Motel had the basic toiletries (shampoo, soap, conditioner) and hot shower. Cable TV had all the channels one would want/need. I was on the second floor and there are two chairs & a table outside on the deck. If I had more time, would have loved to sit out there and enjoy the scenery.

I hope to return, maybe with the family and stay in the inn. Thanks for an excellent stay!

We stayed in the Beehive Room which is on the top floor (the third floor). The room is huge with two comfortable queen beds and plenty of large windows. Although the room is up three flights of steps, even on a busy long weekend, we felt it was pretty quiet and relatively quiet for a large B&B. The breakfasts were also really wonderful with a mix of healthy options, freshly baked goods (including amazing scones), in addition to a choice of savory (e.g., eggs/omelet and bacon) or sweet (e.g., pancakes). Very pleasant staff, too. Just a really pleasant stay over Memorial Day weekend. I should note that their toiletries are motel-quality. Not an issue for me since I brought my own shampoo, but this may be an issue for some.

We spent three days in Bar Harbor this past week as part of a trip along Maine's coast. We chose the motel for the price and the excellent reviews and were very pleased with our accommodations-clean and comfortable. I knew we were in good hands when I received a call from owner, Pam, the week before we were to leave-she cares enough to check on the dates for her customer's arrival and noticed I had booked a 2013 date and she wanted to confirm that that was my intention. It wasn't and my mistake would have been such a disappointment for us had she not caught it. Upon arrival we were given a map of Bar Harbor and recommendations on things to do and good restaurants without even having to ask. This is an excellent location to walk the town-on a quiet street off the main drag, and only a 5-10 min. (depending on where you're going in the park) drive to Acadia Nat'l Park. After all the driving we did it was great to be able to park right out in front of our room and walk to wherever we wanted to go in town. I needed an iron and ironing board one day to go out that evening and after inquiring about it before leaving for breakfast (Cafe This Way-blueberry pancakes-yum!), Pam had housekeeping put it in our room while we were out. Other restaurants they recommended that we found to be very good were Galyns and Mache Bistro.
Friendly, helpful people, clean and comfortable, and location, location .... Moseley Cottage Inn and Town Motel was a great find for us!

We arrived on a horribly rainy day from Salem Mass. The Inn is right near the heart of town and easy to find. It was everything I had hoped it would be and then some. Upon walking in the front door, there was a nice fire going and chocolate chip cookies, scones and coffee on a little table. We checked in quickly and proceeded up to Sargent room which was so charming. It had one of the most comfortable king beds I have ever slept in along with a lilttle sofa in front of the TV, a private porch (which unfortunately we could not use because the weather was against us), roomy walk-in closet, fireplace and a large bathroom. The decor was beautiful. We received maps of Acadia National Park and a town map of Bar Harbor. The staff here were all so helpful and suggested some restaurants in town - Galyn's is excellent. I would recommend checking out the shore walk (it is just one street over) which is a scenic path along the coastline into the heart of Bar Harbor. The breakfasts were outstanding. Every morning it is served starting at 8:00 a.m. - there are several tables in a dining room downstairs. It's a nice way to meet other people staying at the Inn also. There were pastries, scones, fruit, toast, English muffins, juices and coffee set up on sideboards. A whiteboard displayed the hot entree choices of the day and your choice was prepared for you right then and served to you at the table. The lady in the kitchen was so nice. The blueberry pancakes were outstanding - I recommend them. You will not leave hungry!! Some b&bs just have continental style - Mosely Inn serves a very generous breakfast. The food is very good and the presentation nice also! Do yourself a favor and stay here. Even though the weather did not cooperate we could not have had a nicer place to spend our week at Bar Harbor.

Room Tip: If you have any difficult climbing stairs you may prefer the 1st floor as there are several small gr...

On our 1300 mile 10 day driving trip through the New England states, we rotated between high priced luxury B&B's to lower priced accommodations to balance out our overall trip costs. At first we were disappointed the Inn was full but they had rooms availabe in the motel so we got a room with 2 queens for $99. As it turned out, it was perfect for us: Even though there aren't any frills, the room was very comfortable, clean, and we really liked the ease in parking right at our door and not having to carry luggage up and down stairs. The location is the very best, being on a quiet side street just off Main where we were able to walk to all the shops and the waterfront. And the price was unbelievable for a downtown location. We weren't given the free breakfast, but enjoyed fresh scones and cookies that were served daily. Just around the corner we had a delicious breakfast (two mornings) on the lovely patio of Michelle's Fine Dining at the Ivy Manor Inn on Main. We would definitely recommend the Moseley Inn.

We stayed in the Town Motel for the Memorial Day weekend.

Pros:

1. They're close to downtown, so you can reach almost any restaurant within 10 mins by foot (saves on driving and parking).

2. We had a late check-in and they accommodated us. Also, on our last day, they let us leave our car at the motel while we took a boat tour even though we had checked out already. That was nice of them.

3. There's a relaxing seating area on the front lawn, with a gazebo there too. I think the gazebo had a seating hammock for picture taking.

Cons:

1. It was rated #2 of all the hotels in Bar Harbor. We don't agree with this rating from our experience. On going back and reading the reviews, we realized that most of the reviews are from people who stayed in the Cottage Inn and not the Town Motel. If you choose to stay in the motel like we did, you will feel as though you are staying in the servants quarters, for prices that are not any cheaper compared to other motels/inns in the area.

2. The motel room was very outdated. They have provided a mini-fridge, but no microwave. This doesn't make sense, either provide both or neither... if we are going to use the fridge for anything but drinks, we need a microwave to heat the food. Second, there are hardly any electrical outlets. We found two that weren't in use; unfortunately neither worked. We needed a three-pronged outlet for our Macbook, there was only one which was in the kitchenette/bathroom sink area. We had to plug in our computer and then plug in the phones through their USB connectors to charge them.

3. The layout could be way, way better. The room with the bed is huge in comparison to the bathroom/dressing/dining area. They have combined an open closet, a coffeemaker (no tea, sorry!), a hairdryer and a bathroom sink in a space no bigger than a regular closet. Also, you better be <200 lbs if you intend to use the shower. On the plus side (pun unintended), they provided brand name soap (Dial), which was nice. Far better than the generic hotel soap that makes you smell worse than before your shower.

4. The worst part - the wireless Internet was spotty at best. It seemed to work during the day, but was nonexistent during the late night - early morning hours. We wanted to adjust our plans using the Internet and it was just a crapshoot.

5. Ventilation - The AC needs to be replaced. It looks (and sounds) like a relic from the 1980s.

In summary, we stayed in a motel room from the 80s. With a little bit of investment, they can definitely upgrade the customer experience significantly and emerge out of the 80s into the current day (more outlets, a microwave, a real AC, a flat panel TV, newer towels that don't look like they have been in use for 10 years, wireless Internet that reliably works, etc.).

We are definitely staying elsewhere for our next trip to Bar Harbor.

A b & b inn and motel combination. We stayed in the motel at the off season rate of $99. The plus for this place is the location, right in the downtown tourist area it that's where someone wants to be. Yet, the inn itself is on a quiet side street. The accommodations were very acceptable. Unit 10 is more like a junior suite than a mere motel room with a comfortable king size bed, full size sofa, lounge chair, flat screen TV and mini-frig. Very comfortable and clean even if somewhat spartan in overall appearance. The personnel at the front desk were very cordial and helpful.
