“A Top Notch, Family-run Small Business”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 October 2013

The Highbrook Motel was our choice because, wherever we live or go, we try to support excellent mom and pop, family-run businesses. Located on a hillside, this place had an old fashion charm with a front open porch and was absolutely immaculate inside and outside. Our room was cozy with very comfortable beds. They offered an excellent complimentary breakfast that we could take back to our room or pack in a paper carton for the road. Because Acadia National Park was closed due to the Federal Government shutdown, the friendly motel staff directed us to alternative scenic drives.

This has to be the cleanest place we have ever stayed on vacation. The decorating style is reminiscent of the 70s but doesn't feel outdated. We stayed in a deluxe king in the back building. The room was large and very comfortable- as cozy as being in your own home. Breakfast was adequate more like what we would have at home than the buffet at chain hotels. The staff was helpful as to restaurants and activities. We were there during the government shutdown so driving into Acadia NP was not possible but parking alongside the roads by the many trails through the park and walking in was so we still enjoyed the park with less traffic by those not as adventurous. All in all the best place to stay at a reasonable cost and a great area to visit. Hopefully we will be able to return again someday.

I have been visiting Mount Desert Island for decades and am very familiar with the area. The Highbrook hotel is very conveniently located, quiet, and the rooms are extremely clean.

The bathroom has a separate heating system and it was immaculate.

I normally skip the complimentary breakfast offered by hotels, but I could not resist the offerings here. Breakfast included a choice of: hard-boiled eggs (brilliant idea!), bagels, muffins, cereal, yogurt, and much more. All of it is self-serve, and they even provide you with lovely containers for your food and beverages to take back to your room. The breakfast was a very unexpected and pleasant surprise :-)

The staff are extremely friendly, attentive, and helpful. I could not have chosen a better place to stay. I will return next year. Highly recommended.

The rooms are immaculate and large. The beds are extremely comfortable. The personalized service and home touches are extraordinary. There’s really nothing negative I can say about the nine wonderful nights I spent at Highbrook. While many businesses throughout Bar Harbor are family-owned, this in and off itself doesn’t guarantee a good guest experience. This family on the other hand, takes a great deal of pride to ensure a truly first-class experience for all who visit – and at a very reasonable rate.

Overall, the motel has vintage appeal and styling – so if you’re the type who demands a brand new “Four Seasons” or SoHo chic boutique décor, then Highbrook probably isn’t the place for you (although even hotel snobs would be hard-pressed to find anything to knock about Highbrook).

Located just a stone’s throw from all the Bar Harbor and Acadia action, Highbrook is the perfect home-away-from-home location for any Mount Desert Island adventure. The icing on the cake was the owner’s son Adam. This kid is like a walking Fodor’s travel guide, and will help direct you to best places in the park or on the island. This place comes highly recommended! A++

Room Tip: Ask for an end unit. Some room types are bigger than others.

Ed and I come to Highbrook Motel in late August every year to enjoy the magnificent scenery from our mountain bikes and the Bar Harbor scene. Highbrook Motel is less than 2 miles from the Duck Brook entrance to the carriage roads, permitting us to leave our vehicles at the motel. The staff is great, keeping the rooms clean, even delivering mail, and catering to our 7 days of bicycling. We enjoy the variety of foods for breakfast, especially the blueberry muffins. A great vacation every year, 800 miles from home! Jean and Edward Dwyer, from Mitchellville, Maryland.

A motel that looks like a country B&B. Good location, great rooms, helpful staff, nice breakfast to go (on your way, or back to your room). Trolley available to Bar Harbor center. Highly recommended. The Incurable Itinerant
