I loved these cabins. They were snug but roomy enough. They had comfy furniture. There are grills and picnic tables, which we were able to use since we were there in July. There is a paddle boat that you can take and ride around the small lake, which you sadly cannot swim in. There is a fun little playground for younger kids. Our cabin had a small kitchen and refrigerator, which I loved. The cabins are far apart and there are pretty woods around them.

We stayed at Bar Harbor Cottages and Suites in the beginning of October this year. We were lucky that the weather was just perfect to spend a weekend in Bar Harbor.I think we stayed at cottage 11 or 12, overall we liked it, I would recommend you to give it a try if you are not looking for home comfort or 5 star conveniences. Simple, clean for a good price. We loved their beds very much, so comfortable.

Following all the positive reviews we were left disappointed with our accommodation.. We could not fault check-in. Laura was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the area, but is was our cabin that was a bit of a let down. We stayed in #12 and found it a bit tired looking and needed freshening up somewhat...maybe the other cabins were more modernised than ours?? Location was ok, a few miles from downtown.

Thank you for taking the time to review Bar Harbor Cottages and Suites. We are glad to hear that you liked the convenience of our location, that you had a position check-in experience and appreciated our resident manager, Laura's friendly manner and that you found her to be extremely knowlegeable about the area.

We are sorry to hear that you felt the cottage was a bit tired looking during your visit at the end of this season. We do annual maintenance, paint, refresh, repair and replace items in the cottages each season prior to reopening each spring, as well as replace items as needed throughout the season. However, we appreciate your input, and will keep your comment in mind when we do the pre-season prep prior to reopening for the 2014 season.

Stayed just one night for the MDI Marathon. Super cute cottage (#2) with just enough room for the five of us with two bedrooms (each with an incredibly comfortable queen bed) and a pull-out twin sleep sofa in the main living area. TOTAL VALUE! Adorable kitchen area with what looked to be everything you might need to put a meal on the table - wish we could have stayed longer to try it out. There are also barbecue grills for the borrowing (bring your own charcoal). Each cottage has it's own picnic table and designated parking spot. It's mid/late October and getting cool but the unobtrusive electric space heaters warmed the space quickly and quietly. I noticed each unit has an air conditioner for the summer months as well. The screened in porch with table and chairs would be a lovely spot to relax on a warm evening!

Check in was a breeze. The cottage wasn't set up for five (didn't know all three kiddos would be coming with us) but a cheerful employee set up the sofa bed lickety split and it was ready in moments. The office (in the back of the house) had tons of local area information and a courtesy phone should ones cell phone service be spotty. The free WIFI worked great - happy teenagers!

Warm hosts, wonderful cottage, great nights sleep and a super value! We'd stay again in a heartbeat!

One caveat (and certainly not a deal breaker) - location is about a 5/10 minute ride to the center of town (Bar Harbor). You will need a car to get into town after Columbus day - in season I believe the free Island Explorer Shuttle Bus serves this area. The Acadia National Park entrance/Welcome Center is very close, as is PIrate's Cove Adventure Golf.

Room Tip: Great pictures of cottages (inside and out) on the lodging's website!

Since we couldn't get a cottage at the place we normally stay in Bar Harbor I was scrambling to find a place to crash for our leaf peeping expedition. Most places demanded a three-night minimum being that it was a holiday weekend (Columbus Day) but when I called Bar Harbor Cottages, they were happy to book for just the two nights we wanted.

First impressions were OK - no great view like our other place but all the units were central to the office. They had a spread set up with essentials so you didn't have to ask or wait for things like extra towels or toilet paper. They don't offer housekeeping on short visits so it's up to guests to make beds and bus trash.

My wife thought the cottage was quaint and she liked the retro feel of the place and its appointments. I felt (and still feel) it looked a little tired and could use some updating. Still, it wasn't run down by any means. It was comfortable and it was warm and there was plenty of space for three. It was also less expensive by about $50 per night from our preferred facility. The property was reasonably quiet for being so close to the road and parking was convenient to the unit. I would recommend a little groundskeeping to level off the area in front of the cottage. The ground was uneven and I did manage to twist my ankle at one point walking out of the cottage. Nothing major but I can see someone elderly getting hurt pretty easily - it's not easy to see where the dips and divots are. Fill in with some tamped-down topsoil and scatter some seed and some major crises can be averted.

I did like that there was a picnic table at every unit and they had enough portable grills to go around. Be sure to bring charcoal because the grills are pretty basic. If you're like us and actually want to cook onsite, they allow preparation of shellfish in the unit and even offer the use of a lobster pot and lighter fluid. The inside burners are tiny so if you plan to boil a lot of water, plan to use one of the grills. Trust me: you'll be waiting a while otherwise. Also be sure to bring paper towels and anything you might need to scrub pots and pans. They supply some things, but not everything. Also be sure to bring coffee if you like to brew your own. They provide a little welcome basket with one pot's worth of coffee and a few snacks, but you're on your own after that. I forget whether they offer morning coffee since we just make ours anyway. It's far from a deal-breaker if they don't.

The staff are friendly and helpful and were within a stone's throw whenever we needed anything. Being that it is so inexpensive and comfortable, I'm thinking we might make this place our go-to for fall foliage going forward, especially if we can get the same unit. It is central to Pirate's Cove Adventure Golf, several restaurants and a lobster pound, all of which are within about half a mile (on that note, I recommend skipping the Log Cabin altogether - see my review - and being prepared for an ABUNDANCE of attitude at Mainely Meat, but at least the latter serves good food). It's about a 10-minute ride into downtown Bar Harbor and about 1.5 miles from a publicly accessible beach if you like hunting for seashells at low tide or doing a little kayaking.

Room Tip: Read the unit descriptions carefully - some units are listed as "one room" but are actuall...

Very positive experience. The staff was very friendly and ready to assist at all times. The cottage was comfortable, clean and priced within reason. If I ever get back to Bar harbor, to plan to stay at Bar Harbor Cottages. Wouldn't want to stay anywhere else. The cottages are located close to town and Acadia Park, but out far enough to be quiet and peaceful.

We stayed in the cabin and loved it. It is small but just fine for 2 people for a short visit. Quiet even though Bar Harbor is a busy place. The fact that it is a little outside the main town is quiet nice. The staff is delightful. Thank you, Laura, for all you helpful hints. We also appreciated having access to extra supplies plus the BBQ grill.

Room Tip: We would stay there again. Clean, quiet and charming.
