“Great for Families”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 October 2013

We traveled from Miami with two young children (3, 5) to enjoy the fall foliage. After much deliberation, we chose to stay here due to its proximity to Acadia and on-site facilities. Since it was the end of the camping season, we had our choice of sites and opted for R1 with a view of the ocean. The site is near drinking water, and in a gravel cul-de-sac with trails along the water, so perfect for the boys to explore. It is a bit of a uphill walk to the bathroom/showers and playground, but worth it for the view and seclusion. Due to the government shut-down, Acadia was actually closed during our stay, but we still walked in the park along the carriage trails. BTW we bought our firewood at the office, since it was much cheaper than the stores in town.

We were quite impressed with this campground. It is amazingly clean and the facilities/amenities are real nice. Definitely a great place to stay if you have children. Their playground is sure to please any child. We went the weekend they were closing (mid-October) so the pool was closed but it still looked really nice. The campground is neatly located close to most attractions and restaurants. A great place to meet new friends. Family campground at its best. Unfortunately they do not make reservations in advance. That could be a problem during peak season.

Acadia N.P. was the highlight of our Maine trip. Because this campground does not take reservations, I was just a bit nervous that we would actually find a spot. We planned to arrive in the middle of the week. As we toured the sites, it was looking like we'd have to choose another campground to stay, BUT along the outer loop with a gorgeous view and W/E hookups we found a prime location. We couldn't have asked for a better spot. The rates, the view, the facilities, the people combined with the convenience of being on the shuttle route are all reasons why we would stay here again. We had a wonderful stay!

Close to Acadia and Bar Harbor. Quiet and roomy. Nothing spectacular. Wifi worked well. We would definitely stay there again. The staff were friendly and helpful. We did not use the bathhouse so cannot comment on them. We had a pull through site which had some slope to it but were able to level up our motorhome . Nice restaurant within walking distance.

There are numerous campgrounds in the Bar Harbor area, including two in Acadia National Park, but this one has reasonable rates, included Wi-Fi, offers full hook-ups, is nearest to downtown Bar Harbor and to the Acadia National Park visitor center. They have both shaded back-in sites and open pull-through sites, but no store for supplies, though they do sell firewood, ice and propane. Bring cash. This campground does not accept advance reservations, checks or credit cards, but it is usually able to accommodate campers comfortably.

We arrived at about 8:30 pm in mid-September and still had our choice of several spacious, level sites. We were invited to pick one we liked, park and pay the next morning. Once there, we could leave our motorhome parked. Free shuttle buses connect this and other campsites to town and to Acadia's visitor center.

A sign in front of the campground office advertised an outside vendor who promised to deliver a fresh, hot lobster dinner for two to our campsite for $29.95 + tax. We called and placed our order to have it delivered at 7:00 pm. Our dinner arrived as promised, piping hot and included two 1 1/2 pound boiled lobsters, two big boiled stone crabs, a couple of extra claws and two ears of roasted corn. It was a fabulous and memorable feast.

Our experience with this campground and its staff was positive. We will stay there again on our next visit to Bar Harbor.

We stayed here in a Class A Motorhome.

Room Tip: Arrive between noon and 1:00 pm for the biggest choice of campsites

We enjoyed our stay at this campground but didn't think it was anything special compared to others that we've visited elsewhere in New England.

-The staff were helpful and pleasant,
-bathrooms are clean but drafty and dated (I found I needed 2 qtrs. to have a proper shower)
- whilst there is a good view of the bay from the pool area, there are very few sites from which you can see this
-the campsite is on the pick up for the bar harbour shuttle, however note that this is the last campground on route and so at busy times you may only have standing space
-some of the sites were not well drained in rain, and you may end up camping in a puddle!

This campground had clean bathrooms and nice sites. Showers are a quarter but well worth it. Cash only so no reservations. You drive around until you find a site you like. The fire pits are cleaned daily and everyone is so friendly. I can't wait to go back again! Went with my fiance and had a tent. Queit time is at ten but as long as you are not rowdy they won't make you put out your fire. Close to amenities like miniature golf and a free ice cream after the game across the street. The workers at the main office are knowledgable about things to do and see. I would definitely recommend this place!
