The location is unbeatable. Not more than a 5 minute walk to the harbor, restaurants, and shops. There's a great farmer's porch with comfortable wicker furniture w/cushions that's great for people watching. The room was very clean and comfortable. The sheets were very crisp and clean, and the towels were plush. Staff was very friendly. There's lots of common areas in which to play games, log onto your computer, watch tv, or read. Morning coffee was provided in the "dining room" downstairs. Very quaint, old home feel.

My wife Debbie and I had always wanted to visit Bar Harbor. I went online and chose the Central House to stay. We could not be more pleased with our choice. The comfortable lodging, friendly atmosphere (Sarah and Patti are awesome!), spacious front porch (perfect for people watching), and proximity to shops, restaurants, and the water are perfect for a visit to Bar Harbor. As stated on their website the Cental House is truly 4 star accomodations at a 2 star price. Enjoy!

Stayed here for 3 nights in June 2009. $65. per night. Incredible value in the heart of downtown bar harbor. The manager was friendly and would of helped us with anything I'm sure. But being a native, I really didn't need any recommendations, etc. The room was on the 3rd floor, the bathroom very large with really nice thick towels replaced every day. WI FI available, TV in room, plus a LARGE screen TV in common area. Nice front porch (too bad it was raining the whole trip) Central House was quiet and calming.

We were in Bar Harbor for 5 days, exploring Acadia National Park. We found Central House through trip advisor and decided to book ourselves at the inn after reading the reviews and after seeing the reasonable prices. The inn is very well managed. Rooms are always clean. Most importantly, the location is great! Its a 5 minute walk from the village green where you can take free shuttles to the national park, a 5 minute walk from the grocery where you can get cheap supplies, and a 1-3 minute walk from breakfast places, quaint boutiques and restaurants. No breakfast is served, but you do get a $10 card for every night you stay to Geddy's, a great restaurant in town. The only negative we experienced was our bed - it was really creaky and squeaky. If we requested to be moved to another room we were sure they would have accomodated us but we didnt bother anymore.

The room was good value; spacious and a little kitsch. Friendly staff, good service. Free wireless and voucher for nearby restaurant instead of breakfast. The location is great, quiet and very central.

My wife and I stayed at the Central House for seven nights in June 2007, and loved it. The room was clean and adorable (my wife's word), there was ample parking and it was within a short walk (perhaps three blocks) to the downtown shops. We visited there just before the rates went up because of the high season, and we paid around $70 a night (that included tax).

Breakfast is not included, but the owners do give you a $10 gift card each night you stay to Geddy's, a restaurant in town. For us, that was $70, and around three meals. (They give you all the gift cards up front, and you can use them any day). Geddy's has a website, so you can check out the menu.

The best part was the location. We walked downtown every day. We walked to our whale tour (strongly recommended) and our lobster boat tour (we took the LuLu's lobster boat tour, which I also recommend).

The only downside is that there is no phone in the room. But our cell phones worked great (we have Cingular).

The Central House is in a excellent location in downtown Bar Harbor. My husband and I had contemplated staying a little farther out of town but were very glad that we chose to stay in the downtown area. Downtown has a lot of great restaurants, shops, and community activities to do, it was nice not to have to drive very far to find things to do. The staff at the Central House was excellent and the accommodation's are not fancy but they are very comfortable. Overall we loved our time in Bar Harbor and would choose to stay at the Central House again.
