There are plenty of fine reviews of this hotel but I'm forcing myself to give it an average rating instead of poor and mostly because you can tell the owner cares. All of the areas we saw were covered in wallpaper. Maybe you like that. The rooms are small to tiny but perhaps that is necessary to be in such a convenient downtown location with free parking. The bus stop for Acadia National Park is steps from their front door. The shower is very small but what it lacks in size, it did make up for in water pressure-may have been the best shower pressure in Maine. The shower reminded me of what you might have in a RV. There was nice white bedding and a cuddledown coverlet but unfortunately it had a small stain on it (it's off white, so guess it can't be bleached) and it looked fairly new (so that's more of a traveler's fault for staining it). The major issue I had with the room was the smell. It did not smell fresh and clean but I bet this could be easily addressed. Of course, you don't want to put an air freshner in there because those really bother some people and cause headaches and would just cover the smell. I'm not saying it wasn't clean but it just didn't smell good, maybe like a mix of stale odors plus baby lotion. I just don't know. I even thought the bedding smelled funny but my husband said it smelled okay. The furniture in the room is white with beadboard and was in fine shape. We were toward the back on the wrap around porch and did not have a problem with noise. Overall, we were glad we only had to stay here one night and we got to a spacious, beautiful view the next two nights at the Bayview Hotel for only 100$ more which included breakfast.
