Far enough away from Bar Harbor to have an atmosphere of peace and tranquility, but close enough for convenience. Beautiful gardens and grounds behind the inn, overlooking the bay. Steep wooden staircase takes you down the dramatic cliffs to the beach, with rocky coves -- very picturesque. The interior is beautifully decorated, full of lovely decorator items in a quasi-Victorian style. Our guest room was elegantly appointed - but small, as other guests have noted, and a bit too full of stuffed bunnies, fancy throw pillows, etc. Our room - #6 - was on first floor, with windows opening onto the rear porch, so we needed to keep our blinds closed. Air conditioning and fan kept the room comfortable at night.
Jack is a gracious host, stopping to chat and swap stories with guests, ever solicitous of guests' comfort, obviously proud of his establishment. An elegant breakfast is served between 8 am and 9am. While portions are modest, the entree is delicious and beautifully presented. Don't look for big fat sausages or slabs of bacon or ham; the fare tends toward the vegetarian.
There is a nice piano in the main salon, and hosts are happy for guests to play it (of course, if they know how to play!)More
