My husband and I are from RI and when we got married & bought a house last August we decided to do a low-key honeymoon. We didn't want to pay for plane tickets, so we drove 6 hours to Bar Harbor and stayed at the Bar Harbor Inn & Spa. It was lovely! Our room was on the first floor facing the harbor and we had a small balcony complete with two Adirondack chairs so we could sit and watch the boats come in and out. Our room wasn't enormous, but we didn't mind. We had a fireplace, a TV, a wardrobe (with two plush robes that we used the whole time we were there!), a small dresser, and a table. Our bathroom was a typical hotel size and very clean. Actually the whole place was very well-kept. We met our housekeeper, Karen, on our first full day and she gave us some suggestions for places to see while we were on the island. We had gotten one of the summer packages for our stay so it included breakfast every morning at their awesome restaurant (so much more than a continental breakfast!), one dinner in the restaurant, one down east lobster bake on the terrace, a harbor cruise, and a spa credit, which we used towards a couples massage. The spa is in a separate building on the hotel grounds and it's so serene in there. We didn't want to leave! The hotel offered tea and coffee in the lobby and in the afternoons when we'd come in from exploring the town, there would be cookies and juice or lemonade out on a table. The older part of the hotel has a really interesting history which we learned about while we were there. There's also a cute little gift shop next to the lobby, although I think it was a bit overpriced.
Overall our low-key Bar Harbor honeymoon was great and the Bar Harbor Inn made it that much better. The view from our room was very nice, the hotel was well kept and clean, and everyone we met was friendly. The food was a lot better than we anticipated, and we are considering going back for our one year anniversary this summer!
