Here’s why we’ll always return to this hotel when we visit Acadia National Park. In error, I left my favorite eye glasses, unknowingly, the morning that we left (in the wee hours). Bar Harbor Inn mailed me them a few days later, without a request that I pay shipping or handling. I never even had time to notify the Inn that I might have left them there, for they arrived at my home the day that we unpacked. THAT’S GREAT SERVICE!!! ROOM: We liked the view from the balcony--who wouldn't? The fridge was at the bottom, entry level. We never heard it while we slept upstairs. GIFT SHOP: Affordable clothes. We bought a few items, including the red lap-blanket with the inn’s logo. ICE: We got our own, but were asked if a staff member could do it for us. INTERNET: Worked fine. The downstairs computers were never too busy to be used. CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST: We had a continental breakfast/room reservation. The morning meal was very healthful--lots of fresh fruit. The coffee cakes were presented in bite-size pieces. DINNER: The Reading Room Restaurant was satisfying. BEST COURSE: Appetizers/Soups. Asparagus Strudel appetizer was delicate. Lobster Bisque Soup was not overly creamy. Entrées. Maine Lobster Pie was out-of-the-ballpark. Scallops were offered in large portions—not the usual 3. DESSERTS: Single portion desserts were so large that the two of us could not finish one at any individual meal. OVERALL: We were glad that we didn't drive to a nearby restaurant, when the Inn itself had reasonably good dining. One night after dinner, we walked a few blocks, and we saw & heard the Bar Harbor Town Band. The conductor and instrumentalists shared musician-jokes during the breaks! The jokes were actually very funny. In conclusion, we truly enjoyed our stay at Bar Harbor Inn.
