At the end of May, we stayed three nights in this classical old style Inn on the banks of the Frenchmen Bay in Maine. The site is unique, eating lobster on the terrasse is exquisite. The rooms with the ocean view in the main Inn are so cosy. Don't miss dining in the Reading Room restaurant, the chef knows how. Last but mot the least, the staff, polite, agreable, discreet and very helpful

Room Tip: Chose the ocean view rooms.

May 13-15, 2013 we had the pleasure of spending two nights at the Bar Harbor Inn & Spa in the oceanfront lodge area which offered a beautiful large room complete with a waterfront balcony. We liked the location which was a short walk from the main lodge because it was quiet, we could park right outside our door, and the complimentary breakfast room was just a few feet away. The main lodge had a roaring fire and there were assorted sitting areas to relax with complimentary coffee, tea and hot chocolate 24/7. I had the pleasure of visiting the on-site spa and found it to be one of the hotel's best kept secrets. When I visited, no one else was using the exercise facilities, sauna, and showers so I enjoyed an hour of tranquility. The outdoor pool was being repainted during our visit (plus it was too cold to swim), but the area looked very welcoming.

The location of the Bar Harbor Inn is perfect for walking into town for a lobster roll, having dinner at one of the local restaurants, and shopping. One evening we wanted to eat at The Ivy Inn, but unfortunately they were not open that evening (we were there prior to the summer season schedule) . Despite the fact they were not open, the owners, John and Christine, invited us in to see the remodeled dining room and showed us the menu, which looked fantastic - high quality food and an impressive wine list. I was sorry we weren't staying another night to meet the chef and enjoy their food.

Room Tip: Rooms in the oceanfront "lodge" were quiet and a few steps away from the breakfast room.

Our room was recently renovated and very nice. Unbeatable location close to shops and restaurants. I highly recommend Bar Harbor Inn restaurant. Food was delicious and perfectly cooked. Our server Sergey was friendly and attentive. He was very helpful with food choices. Wonderful service overall!

Perfect place for girls' getaway - we were celebrating a birthday and retirement. Beautiful grounds, clean and comfortable rooms, great food, and delightful staff. We were especially impressed with the spa. We both indulged in a massage the first day and were really happy with the overall experience - and particularly with the therapist (Marsha) who was professional and intuitive (found and relieved all those "knots"). As a matter of fact, I enjoyed so much relief from my neck and back tension that I opted to return for a fabulous hot stone massage the second day, instead of shopping in town. The oceanfront location of the property is great - easy access to the oceanside trail, and close to town - yet somehow private and serene. Entrance to the spectacular Acadia National Park is just a short drive away, and all sorts of land and water sports and activities are available. Would definitely return!

Room Tip: Newport building is interior on grounds - but we were happy to reserve there at a lower rate.... the...

Love the area, great place to stay if you like to walk around town. Very convenient to shops and places to eat. Went during the off season so there wasn't any crowds in the area. My only complaint was that I reserved on a special price and when I got my bill it was full price for two nights out of three. Great staff and very helpful.

Room Tip: get an ocean view room, it's worth the extra few dollars. They have a great view of the harbor...

The Bar Harbor in is a really cute hotel with great and well kept grounds and amazing views of the ocean and Bar Harbor. My husband and I did not get an ocean view room, and were really bummed when we got there because the balconies of those rooms looked amazing! We had a little covered sitting area outside of our room, but it was really cold and rainy. The hotel has plenty of parking and is within walking distance of everywhere in Bar Harbor and a very short drive to Acadia National Park. The staff was great and the hotel was very clean. The decor of the room needs to be updated as it is really ugly. Flower covered everything, just very old feeling. I wish the inside would match the feeling of the outside of the hotel! I would definitely recommend this place. We went during the off season, so it was not very busy and quiet.

Terrific stay in a wonderful Inn. Room was spacious with great view of ocean, porch for sitting and watching the harbor. Bath and shower were clean and tub had nice jacuzzi. Room was complete with fireplace, for warming after the chill of the day. Service was excellent, desk staff very accommodating. Best relaxing trip in a long time.

Room Tip: Request the ocean side rooms for best view.
