I cannot say enough positive things about the Bar Harbor Inn. Our room in The Main Inn was just lovely and the staff could not have been more helpful. We purchased the package which included breakfast both days and dinner one night. This was our first experience with Eggs Benedict with Lobster, Wow, that was the best. We also did the Maine Lobster Bake, which was great, followed by an amazing Blueberry Pie with Ice Cream.

Unfortunately, on Saturday morning the weather outside was very stormy. On the plus side, we were fortunate to be guests at the Inn, in that we sat in front of the fireplace in the Main Inn reading our books while wonderful gentleman checked on us every 15 minutes being sure to add logs to the fireplace.

Originally we had planned on staying at another highly rated Inn, further out of town, and our Sons suggested the Bar Harbor Inn, saying due to the location and all of the amenities, it was a better choice. They were right!!

Room Tip: We stayed at The Main Inn, first floor, overlooking the garden. Since my spouse has back problems...

This note recognizes Executive Chef Louis Kiefer Jr., C.E.C. and Bar Harbor Inn for an amazing instance of hospitality. This past Wednesday, the chef conducted the most fascinating yet informal lecture with visible passion about herbs, their use, cultivation and current culinary trends imaginable.

We toured his personally tended herb garden and tasted a few freshly cut samples…wonderful. But the best was ahead.

The reassembled group was toured through the upper kitchen wherein the wonderful fragrances of the inn’s lunch preparations were underway. The soon to be scintillatingly busy hot line, composing, finishing and baking areas were islands of their own character, festooned with the tools for each speciality.

The chef cordially invited the group to a sit down discussion and a live cooking demonstration in the Oasis Club, the cocktail lounge for the inn. This most generous offering of Down East hospitality is memorable. The group was offered a choice of summer drinks, iced tea, etc. and Chef Lou swung into action.

After a brief presentation and discussion of selecting, sharpening and generally caring for kitchen cutlery, the chef staged his ingredients and began a most exquisite preparation, sautéed sea scallops in a gingered cream reduction finished with a hint of smoked Maine shrimp, lightly braised arugula and vegetable medley, served over rice. We each received a portion to evaluate, fabulously delicious! This writer believes this dish represents scallops’ leap into immortality…yes, it was that good.

And as if this weren’t enough wonderfulness, we were treated to a lovely slice of the inn’s limoncello cake, as a ‘dessert.’

Not only is the chef masterful in his trade, but also he is a superb teacher. The nuance associated with transforming just food to memorable is at best difficult to explain. This he did admirably and with good humor, to boot.

Each of the attendees was made to feel at home, truly; Chef Kiefer conveyed deeply his sense of his and the inn’s connections to the local community, including personal dealings with local fishermen and other food sources…the lasting impression he made was genuine and reflective of the overall sense that derives from being a guest of the Bar Harbor Inn. Well-done Chef Kiefer!

Room Tip: Try 501 in the Ocean Side building for the best direct ocean front vista

This was our first time to Bar Harbor and we were not disappointed!! It was lovely as was our room. My favorite part was the balcony in our room. Don't let the outdated decor on the pictures fool you, these rooms are very nice and quaint. I would highly reccommend the harbor side in the lodge. We travelled at the end of May and it was quiet and very enjoyable.
Once we parked the car we easily walked everywhere from the BHI. We also enjoyed the surrounding green space.
Great location, friendly service, beautiful rooms and great views. Nice relaxing and romanticget away.

We had a room over a noisy breakfast room and we are light sleepers. The staff offered us another comparable room without us asking. The view from the room was fabulous and we were given a coupon for a reduced rate at the Reading Room restaurant there where the meal great.

This is a lovely inn in the middle of the super village of Bar Harbor. It is walking distance from all the town and not a far drive from beautiful Acadia National Park. The piano bar is a great, rellaxing night spot and the food is unique and delicious!!!! I had lobster pot pie and not only did it taste divine but was well presented!!!!! The drinks are great with unique offerings. We so enjoyed our stay here. The staff is very friendly and they have a great continental breakfast with many choices.

I selected this wonderful Inn for it's location for a sister/mom's weekend to celebrate my oldest sister's 60th birthday. Bcause it was girl's time we even chose to have the four of us in one room. When making reservations, i was assured it would work out fine and truly it was a great space and added to the weekend's giggles (who knew mom snored?!). From the time we arrived weary on a rainy evening until the time we left on a gloriously sunny day we were well tended. Our welcome by Kelly was friendly, expeditious and informational, our room and bathroom were kept spotless by a very cheerful Nadeen and our view of the ocean was stunning in both rain and in sunshine--I highly recommend having that view. We even had an early morning visit by a gull who posed beautifully for photos on our balcony rail. We also enjoyed complimentary breakfast each morning and while billed as continental, it was more than just breads and had a broad array of yogurts, fruits, pastries, granolas/cereals and hard bolied eggs. These guys got it right---worked hard for those hours this was open and kept the trays full and the tables clean. Again this was with a pretty view to the water. As for location, you cannot beat the easy (83 year old mom was fine) walk to shops and restaurants (their Reading Room also very highly rated) such as Gaylyn's where we enjoyed a wonderful meal incluing Mediterranean Scallops (even got the recipe!) and a very easy drive to the Acadia National Park Loop with its stunning vistas and intermediate to challenging hiking trails. we happened to have had a fair amount of rain that warrants us returning again in the near future but despite the weather our stay at Bar Harbor Inn made the trip 'sunny' indeed.

Room Tip: Ocean view rooms will spoil you

We didn't have the best rooms in the Inn, but I have to say that for the price and location (compared to other places nearby) this place was great. Service was good and professional - even through an inconvenient room change mid-week, beds comfortable, etc.

One of the best free continental breakfasts services I have ever had, plus a great view while you eat, and that is what puts my review up a notch. Seriously, the words "Complimentary Continental Breakfast" in many places can mean anything - a loaf of crappy white bread and a broken toaster with some jelly packets - but the folks at BHI are the top end of Continental Breakfast.

Room Tip: We were in the Newport building which doesn't have a view but is lower cost and it was fine. Jus...
