“Wonderful as long as you get the view”
Reviewed 23 June 2014

Great hotel just outside Bar harbor so it is quite and no problems with parking. I paid more for the sea side view in the "Main building" and made sure that it was not above the restaurant so that I would have a clear view. If you get the sea view be sure and check where you are otherwise you will have some angles of the bay and or views of the exhaust vents from the restaurant. As for the restaurant, I can not give a review since we never ate here. Make the trip into Bar Harbor(about 1 mile) for breakfast at either "Jennie's Great Maine Breakfast" or "Cafe this way". Both are great, check out my reviews on them as well.

The hotel is showing some age but I have no complaints as all we wanted was a good clean room with a view of the bay which is what I got. This hotel is also close to the entrance(s) to acadia national park where we went hiking each day of our 8 day stay.

So if you want a clean room away from the mess in downtown Bar Harbor, then this is the place

Room Tip: Pay extra for the bay view but check to see if you are in the "Main building" otherwise yo...

We stayed here from 6/15/2014 - 6/21-2014. Overall, this hotel/resort is in a great location with friendly and helpful staff. It is just around the corner (about 1 mile) from downtown Bar Harbor. The amenities are dated, but seem well kept. It appeared from the activity there was a great deal of effort being put into the place. There is a nice restaurant/bar, "Labella vita", that has a large breakfast buffet for $15/person (if you don't get the breakfast plan). We did not sample the other menus as our excursions didn't allow for this. The hotel includes a very large outdoor heated pool (one of the reasons we chose it) that overlooks the bay, as well as a small bar and "Lobster Pound" (not open the dates we were there) that are also on the water. We chose a King Room with an Ocean View. This put us on the second floor overlooking the pool and the bay. The view was very nice, but could get noisy during busier days. There are rooms in this building that are further back from the pool area. Most rooms of this type have a walkout balcony also, but we were told that they may not always be able to accommodate this request.

And now for the quirks.

Upon arrival the building marked as the Holiday Inn is not where the check-in is found. The next hotel (Bar Harbor Regency) is where you check in. The building where the Holiday Inn sign is located is called the Eden building. We had no experience with it, but found other reviews that said to avoid it.

We found this hotel online, but wanted to check for any discounts available so we called the hotel directly. After discussions about what discounts were available, we were told that they also had a special breakfast plan rate. We were told that a King Room with Ocean View was available for $1184 and included breakfast each morning. We were very surprised at this rate as the online price at the time was significantly higher. She assured us that this price was a special that included a military discount and AAA with the breakfast plan. She also told us that we could probably obtain a better price from central reservations. After confirming the price and all that it included we had her transfer us to central reservations. The price they had available was the same as online. We called back and spoke with the same woman at the hotel. We again told her we wanted the King Room Ocean View with the breakfast plan (and requested a walk out balcony). She entered all of this into her computer again and gave us the same $1184 price. We booked it and confirmed all of the details again. We were given a confirmation number and hung up. Upon arriving at the hotel on the evening of the 15th, we were asked to sign the check in with a significantly higher rate (the online rate). We asked to speak with the manager on duty and were told that there is no way they could honor the rate we had been given. We told them that it would all be cleared up if we could talk with the woman that made the reservation. She was one of their managers but would not be in until the following evening. We indicated on the bill that we disputed their charges and were given our room. Everyone involved was very polite and courteous.

The next day we spoke with the woman that made the reservation. She indicated that we must have misunderstood her on the phone and that the rate we were told upon check-in is the rate for the room and breakfast. After recounting the conversation with her, she was adamant about her preciseness when dealing with customers and that there was no way she would have ever given out that rate. Conveniently, when checking the confirmation email, there was nothing about rates listed. She said this was also unusual. She offered to check us out for the night we had already used and we could cancel the rest of the stay. Needless to say, I found this very unprofessional. After working the numbers and checking us out and back in for the remaining 5 days, she was able to get the rate down to $1110, but WITHOUT the breakfast. As we wanted to move on with our vacation we took this deal and enjoyed the rest of our week. She was clearly defensive about the whole situation.

We chose this hotel for the price, the breakfast, and the large heated pool. The price wasn't what we booked, the breakfast was taken away, and the pool was not always "heated". There were other hotels in the area with the same online price and including breakfast. I do believe in the end we received a fair deal but were left with a bad taste over the whole ordeal.

If you do choose to stay at this resort, I am sure you will find the staff to be helpful and pleasant. I do want to recognize two individuals that seemed to go above and beyond to make our stay very comfortable. While I am sure there are many exceptional employees at this hotel, these are two that we had the opportunity to interact with. Norman works at the front desk and is a local to the area. He was very helpful and exceedingly pleasant and eager to ensure that we had everything we needed. Amber works in the LaBella vita restaurant in the morning as you enter the restaurant. She had a genuine caring personality and went out of her way to ensure that everything met with our satisfaction and we were well taken care of. Thanks to both of them.

Room Tip: There is limited views from the Eden building. It seems to have been a separate hotel and then the t...

We stayed at this "resort" on June 22nd and 23rd. The staff are all very nice but the hotel is very rundown. The hot tub was not working and had no rails to hold to get in and out. They had no queen beds so my wife and our teenaged son and daughter had to sleep in worn out double beds. We passed on the $11.00 per person continental breakfast. One evening we asked to use a microwave to heat up my son's hamburger and we were told that there were no microwaves in the entire resort. Unbelievable! When we checked out we told the clerk about our issues and she just nodded and said that she understood. I guess she has heard it all before. Needless to say, I will not stay here again.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Regency. We were greeted by Jimmy at the front desk who helped us decide if we wanted to upgrade to a balcony room by taking us to view it before we made a decision. The staff wore a smile and greeted us warmly each time we passed. The room as very comfortable with a lovely view of the harbor. The housekeeping did a great job to straighten our room without being intrusive. The grounds were well kept and the pool and hot tub enjoyable.
The only negative was that the balconies did not have lighting so you could not sit out and read in the evening. However, the ample grounds provided plenty of lighted seating to sit and read while enjoying the view of the harbor. I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask to see the room before deciding to upgrade since the rooms in one building do not have balconies...

It's a very nice hotel overlooking the harbor. The checkin was smooth and the checkin staff was friendly, cordial and pleasant. Rooms are a bit out dated, and need refurbishing, but clean and comfortable. Very close to the marina, and reasonably priced.

When we first checked in at the hotel, we walked into a beautiful lobby entrance with a restaurant and a pool overlooking the water, and then they sent us to their side building which was not connected, and not even half as nice as the main hotel. It was because we didn't get a balcony room. The side building we stayed in seemed like another hotel with a cigarette smell, and isolated from all the nice amenities the other building had to offer. We were disappointed at first because we weren't aware but the hotel was fine and clean. The room itself did not have a cigarette smell, but the building entrance did when you first walk in.

We stayed here on a recent trip to Maine for the weekend. We had spent the day in Acadia National Park. This hotel is convenient to the park and is only about 3 miles from the entrance. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was super clean and comfortable. The property is located just a short drive in the car from downtown Bar Harbor.

You can take a short stroll at the back of the property right down to the water. We would stay here again if we happen to be in the area.
