“About What We Expected”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 July 2014 via mobile

We visit Acadia every year and always stay on the Quiet Side of MDI bc we prefer to be away from the crowds and closer to hiking, biking and kayaking trails. This year, we decided to extend our trip by staying at a hotel on Saturday night and choose the Bar Harbor Regency/Holiday Inn for our stay. We selected this hotel bc we knew it was in a good location, had an Ocean front pool and had availability for Saturday night. The rate was $279, which we considered reasonable for the high season. The hotel was an older property showing significant signs of age in the hallway, room and balcony and outdoor common areas. The only sign of any recent upgrade was in the bathroom, it was clear ours has been redone within the last five years. The pool area has potential to be gorgeous - however - threadbare pool towels and a poorly maintained pool area suggested the property owners did not have much interest in upkeep. In addition, although we had an ocean view room - the view was diminished by the roof of the restaurant, which was visually pretty darn ugly. We were only staying one night, so it wasn't a big deal for us. That said, I would not stay here again unless the owners invest in a complete renovation. Until then, we'll look to extend our annual stay in Acadia at a property that is newer and/or maintained better.

Thank you for you feedback. Many upgrades have been completed recently, like the bathrooms as you mentioned. The tiki bar was refurbished last year. The pool area is scheduled for this fall and will include newer towels.

Stayed in main building. Restaurant has large windows great for viewing harvesting of lobster pots over breakfast. The chef at the lobster pound was very friendly and helpful, taking the time to teach my daughter how to choose her lobster for dinner. No need for a car. Hotel buses run every 15 min. And go to all destinations.

we booked the holiday inn for two night stay this week, we paid extra for an ocean view so were housed in the main building. I have to say it was definitely a four star hotel, immaculate rooms and pool was gorgeous overlooking the sea. Spectacular views. We dined at both restaurants on site and they were 5 star. Food amazing. Breakfast was included in our stay. Its a short drive to the main centre maybe 5 mins which is a lovely little town. I would recommend paying the difference for an ocean view as the standard rooms are housed in a totally separate building which didn't look as nice. Beautiful time would definitely return

We staid in this Holiday Inn resort for one night in high season July. We were not overly impressed. The hotel grounds and outer impression of the hotel was pretty good, which maybe raised our expectations too high.
The check-in process was quick and efficient, although not overly welcoming. We were assigned a king room in the annex building across the parking lot (as booked). Unfortunately, it was on the ground floor, although my IHG profile always requests high floors. We asked the now even less friendly receptionist for a change into a higher floor, and were offered either a street facing king room in the main building, or a two dbl bed room in the annex on third floor. Both at a surcharge. We accepted the latter.
The room furniture was ok, overall clean, nothing special. It was accompanied by a really old mini-fridge. Beneath the window, we found some plastic covers of some sort. We asked the housekeeper (happenend to run into her when she was apparently doing a check next door) about them, and showed them to her, she just shrugged and said they had fallen off a few days ago. They weren't taken away, nor was any sort of apology offered. Had I stepped on them barefoot, it could have caused injury, not even wanting to think about what might have happened if two kids had found them and decided to play with them.
In the evening, Bar Harbor was hit by a power outage. Obviously, this is not the hotel's fault, but they didn't deal with it very well either. The staircases were very dark, as no emergency lighting was on. After a while, they put up glowsticks in the staircases, which helped a little. There was no information given at any time - I would have expected a little sign in the lobby of both the main building and the annex to inform the customers of the outage, that the main restaurant and bar were closed, where to go to for food and drinks, and where to turn to in case of issues/questions. Power returned after about three hours.
The next morning, the check-out process was quick and efficient. The bill was accurate, and they hadn't charged the surcharge, which was a plus. But overall, it was clearly no more than average, and maybe even a little less than average compared to other Holiday Inns I have staid at.

We went off-season which is suggested! Right on water and just outside of downtown. $5 cab ride - good deal. The grounds needed a little TLC. The outside bar was comfortable. We did not sample the on-premise restaurant instead choosing for the short ride to town. The fitness room was way too small for the size of the hotel. Overall, though, this hotel and its location are perfect for a quick getaway.

Room Tip: Oceanfront rooms make the accommodation. We upgraded from the parking lot side.

We had a great 3 day visit. All staff were very friendly, especially the gardener who took the time to discuss day lilies and hostas planting and propagation with us. King bed very comfortable and view of bay nice. Weather was cool during our stay so we greatly enjoyed the heated pool. We only ate our breakfast at the hotel which was a great value. Loved the free shuttle, enjoyed jaunts into town each night. Quaint village atmosphere, good variety of shops and restaurants.

Room Tip: We had a partial view. Faced the quiet side of the building. Though we didn't face the front, ba...
