The Night Tour is interesting - make sure you book several weeks in advance since it sells out fast.

“Eerie Place”
Reviewed 31 March 2012

This place is an eerie place to visit. It's better not to try to see this in the summer because the crowds are huge and it takes a while to board.

“Great historical attraction, though needs updating”
Reviewed 30 March 2012

Loved being on the site. The audio tour, however, did not sound like it changed at all since I was last there 15years ago.
Site needs some restoration work, which I am glad to say the Park Service is addressing, albeit slowly.

“Great history presentations - but need more on the Indian Takeover”
Reviewed 30 March 2012

This is a wonderful place to visit, but i wouldn't want to live there! Seriously, the wind blows mean and cold most of the day and into the night, so you better bring a spare vest and another wind-shell. Oh, and don't forget the hat and some aloe vera for the windburn. Walking shoes or comfortable kicks are a must, and don't forget water. No food on the Island, so eat on the ferry over, because the walking will make you hungry. We loved it - they have numerous different kinds of exhibits - the fort and cannons, the prison, the Indian Takeover. Really, though, they should have more stuff on the Indian Takeover, since that event was way more relevant than a bunch of criminals sitting out their last days, or even the Army protecting the Bay during the Civil War. Nothing happened during the Civil War out here, but the Indians did something that had never been done before: they held a federal property for longer than any federal property has been occupied. 19 months! Those Indian students changed the face of the Civil Rights Movement, and they helped create a new kind of direct action, so they should be celebrated by every person of color, by every lifestyle-diverse person, by every social outcast trying to gain a measure of equality in this country. The GGNRA should figure a way to get more money to build a real museum dedicated to the Indian Occupation of 1969, so that people would come to the Rock to learn more about *that* than to learn about killers and criminals. We loved what we saw, and we'd like to see more... and more varied exhibits!
