This is an amazing building, very near ferry terminals of course. Tuesday, Thursday and especially Saturday brings amazing farmers ' markets. Sitting out back and looking at the water is blissful. There are terrific good stands, a great bookstore named Book Passage, Heath ceramics, and more. Not to be missed!

On our way to Alcatraz, we were searching for a quick bite of breakfast. We suddenly remembered that the Ferry Building was full of interesting and varied foods and vendors, and headed right over. So glad we did! Wandering through the many markets (both inside and out), I was reminded of Chelsea Market in New York. Take a quick walk before you decide on where to eat; there are so many delicious options (at a reasonable price). Take your selection to the general seating in the rear and enjoy!

My family, including two children, stopped in on a Friday to check it out. There was no farmer's market going on, but it was still fun. We expected there to be plenty of shops and restaurants, but we had no idea how many places would be providing samples. The sampling was so much fun, especially with the ability to sample all sorts of chocolates, nuts, pastries, etc. from various places. We even bought a few unique items that we sampled. We all enjoyed it very much.

I would definitely return to this place. Very clean, very upscale, great vendors, totally unlike anything farther down on Fisherman's Wharf. My granddaughter tasted fresh dairy milk, we tasted cookies from Argentina, donuts from Italy, and sampled nuts from all over the world. Everything was delicious and I wish now we had more time to explore all the eateries there. They boast the best ice cream and cheeses in the area and from what we heard from other travelers, all very true.
