For a confirmed Kerouac fanatic like me, it doesn’t get much better than City Lights! Talk about a bookstore that has inspired generations. I still squeal every time I walk through the door. Thank God they are still going strong after 50 years. This bookstore is a national treasure!

A must for poetry lovers ! This book shop has so much history. It's worth visiting. The upstairs poetry room has some wonderful photos of San Francisco poets. Don't forget to visit the downstairs area as well. Lots of books packed into this wonderful shop!

City Lights is a historic bookstore in San Francisco that people from all reading and writing backgrounds can appreciate. The entire bookstore is well-organized and the staff seemed very friendly. When you visit, be sure to check out both the downstairs and the upstairs (the poetry room), both of which have different "vibes," if you will. And what better souvenir to purchase than a book!? :)

I have been to San Francisco inumerable times over the ladt fifty years and for one reason or another I have missed City Lights. It was as I expected. The surrondings were as they must hsve been in the 60's I expected Ferlingehetti to apppear. Wonderful experince for an old hippy.

City Lights is a "reader's dream". It still has the aura of the Beat generation. It's very well stocked with books of interest and it's a great inviting place for books' lovers.
I spent almost a month in San Francisco and I was living very close to the store. Almost every day I was visiting the store for the pleasure of wandering around, touch books, smell their papers.....it's a really gorgeous place!
