“Small but full of good stuff”

Great little museum, friendly desk staff, friendly gift shop staff. The museum is small, only large enough for a couple of exhibits, but they do well with what they have. The Sandman Exhibition was AWESOME.

“A "Must See" Museum for the Cartoon-Lovers!”
Reviewed 17 March 2014

It was a good finding to know about the Cartoon Art Museum (thanks for the clerk in the Dysney store for the good tip). Although small, the collection is interesting and for my good fortune we had the opportunity to see the Sandman exposition ! It is really very good and i highly recommend it, specially because even Neil Gaiman was impressed by the exposition and - although trying not be associated with sandman because of other creations of his owns in the last decades - he could not deny such passionate endeavor Sandman work was
Good tip; do not miss the store, you will truly find something awesome in the world of cartoons for you, your geek friend, your sons/daughters (and why not? greatsons/greatdaughters! cartoons do not have age!

“Nicely displayed art from cartoons to graphic novels”
Reviewed 29 December 2013

I'm not a huge cartoon fan, but enjoyed many of the pieces that brought back Sunday paper memories from my youth. The pieces really do run the gamut of very early cartoon drawings from earth 20th century to the present.

“A bit disappointing”
Reviewed 18 December 2013

It is just a big Neil Gaiman homage - and there is not very much more. I have nothing against Gaiman, actually I love him but I expected more. I appreciated Popeye, the Peanuts, Felix and so on, but there was just not enough about it all. Nothing about the Avengers for example... while in the bookshop you find plenty of issues about them.

“what a nice surprise!”
Reviewed 22 October 2013

I had some time to kill in San Francisco between an appointment and meeting up with a friend. I'd seen the Cartoon Art Museum online and thought I would walk over and check it out. It was totally worth it!

This is a small museum - maybe more like a gallery - but the space is nice and the exhibits are well done. This space is filled with original works of art that have been generously contributed so that the public can take a look behind the scenes of what is generally a pretty accessible form of art. It shows a great appreciation and understanding of the art, with good information posted with the exhibits. The exhibits rotate often, so it would be worth it to come back. When I was there, they had a special exhibit for the 25th anniversary of Neil Gaiman's The Sandman, which is a series that is near and dear to my heart. Seeing all of the original sketches was amazing. Other exhibits on while I was there were Will Eisner's work and Thrilling Adventure Hour.

I've seen some other comments about the cost of admission not being worth the size of the museum. I paid $7, and felt it was worth every penny, however I personally feel that any contribution to the arts is worth it. This is absolutely worth checking out!
