My husband surprised me with a stay here for my birthday. We had an amazing view of the city! I seriously could not get over the view we had! The room was just great in general. Very comfortable and stylish decor.
We were on an executive level and had access to the amazing lounge there, where we enjoyed a wonderful variety of food and beverages.
The location was great and we were able to walk to many places around the city.

This was our first time in San Francisco, and The Clift made our visit just better.
the Location is just perfect, walking distance from restaurants, bars, shopping, ChinaTown (etc)

Our room (Studio) was so invitng and clean. The staff was very attentive, The Hotel is super cool! didn't expect less from a MHG property

We are going to Sonoma in May 2012 but first will stop in San Francisco for a couple days.....we will definately choose the Clift again!

Dear Mlinkous,
I am so happy that your first trip to San Francisco was enhanced by your stay with us! I am glad that our hotel and staff met your expectations and that you liked your studio junior suite! It’s fantastic to see that you have planned for your return visit! See you in May!

Here is the review I left on another hotel review web site:

From the original article: "Overall, the Clift is the kind of place that screams "sexy" and "high design" -- "

From us: No, what this place screams is "Make it fast, make it cheap and gouge 'em as long as you can".

Leaky sink faucet, plugged tub, miniature bathroom with no exhaust fan. Look at the pic of the standard room. See if you can find a sock drawer or a desk drawer or a night stand drawer. Nope, not a drawer in the joint. No coffee maker, no reefer, not even a phone book. Orange plexiglass boxes for night stands. $15 for wifi. Business center??? Hilarious. A room where you can print out your boarding pass. The "writing amenities" consisted of a white #2 pencil with "Clift" on it and a 2x3 note pad. Seriously, I am not making this up.
Bacon and eggs for $18. You should see how much they charge for the same stuff delivered by room service!
This is a place that screams "deliver the very least at the highest possible price as long as we can and then dump it." Look at the corporate officers. This place is run by finance guys and real estate and investment guys. There is maybe 1 guy with any background in Hospitality and he's probably parked on the second row at the meetings. Typical 2K business model: a vision no more further looking than the current quarter. Deliver the minimum, charge obscenely. This place has all of the look and utility of a rent-by-the-hour joint. Never again and we go to San Fran a LOT with friends and travel groups. The staff was great as staff usually is. The problems with this hotel start squarely in the board room with the parent company, Morgans Hotel Group. Check out the board members' resumes.
What a shame.

Good location close to Union Square - quite easy to get to the different areas of San Francisco via local transport. Room was nicely presented with modern decor, if a little small for the price, but adequate for 4 nights stay. We stayed over the weekend and although the bar downstairs was busy, thre was no issue with noise in the room. Breakfast is pricey, I would suggest scouting out some cheaper diners away from Union square. Staff were welcoming but not overly knowledgeable about local transport / sights.

Dear Haellostinside,
Thank you for coming to staying with us and reflecting with everyone about your visit. I am pleased that you liked the hotel. Being located in the heart of San Francisco, it allows easy access for our guests to get out and about and explore the city. If you ever need advice about where to go and what to see ask anyone of our staff members, but make sure to swing by and ask our experts at the concierge desk. Hope to see you again soon!
Sincerely,
Tyler – Assistant Front Office Manager

The hotel is very hip and is known for their lounge. We had a junior suite that was big but there was not a single picture on the wall and it had the smallest bathroom I have ever been in. You could barely turn around without hitting something. The service was great and I loved the feel of the lobby. It is VERY easy to miss this hotel as you drive along Geary trying to find it. Be on the lookout because if you miss it, it could take 20 mins to recircle back to it since so many of the streets in that area are One Way.

Room Tip: Get the biggest room you can afford since the bathroom is so small. I can't imagine how much smaller it could be in a regular size room.

Dear travelingfool01,
Thank you so much for staying with us and taking the time to share your experience with everyone. I am glad that you enjoyed your visit and thought the hotel was fun. Some of our bathrooms are a bit small but are still very manageable. It is so very rewarding that you thought the service was great and loved the lobby! We look forward to hosting you the next time you are in SF!
