Wonderful little B&B in the heart of a beautiful and vivid quater of town. The Inn keeper, Jan, is a friendly and amiable host and serves a wonderful selfmade breakfast. I travel to SF since years and this location is my first choice.

Stayed in the Green Room the first three nights and the White Room one night. Noise and down the hall access to toilet and shower were the biggest issues, but not a huge problem. Free earplugs helped a lot with sleeping. The White Room was much quieter and had its own toilet and shower. Great breakfast spread and service. If you have a car, talk to Jan about parking up the street. He saved us a lot of trouble during our stay!

Room Tip: Rooms at the back of the house, away from Castro St are the quietest.

Just got back from 2 weeks in California/Nevada and of ALL the places we stayed The Inn On Castro was the best (beat out the Hyatt, imho). I stayed at this Inn 25 years ago and loved it then, and for two nights with my partner two weeks ago and still love it. We were in the Red Room and enjoyed being able to sneak outside to greet the morning or sit on the patio and listen to the city waking up or quietly catching up on emails before going to an amazing breakfast each morning with so many choices of coffee, cereals, fruit, eggs, French toast, juices etc. Jan really outdoes himself! The staff are really friendly and helpful, the rooms spotless with nice little touches added in and you can't beat the location. Having the Muni system/ F-Line Streetcar (Streetcar is a great way to get through the downtown area all the way to Fisherman's Wharf and the Piers) almost right outside the front door is a huge bonus. A quick walk up through the neighbourhood gets you up to Corona Heights with a fabulous view of the city, btw. Worth the trek. Would NOT hesitate to stay here again and would highly recommend it! Thanks so much for helping make our trip so wonderful with lasting memories. And if you have just about ANY question about San Francisco, Jan and his staff can answer it. Kudos, Inn On Castro!!! Sincerely, Adam and Chris, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Room Tip: If you are a smoker, the Red Room gets you outside to the patio. Keep in mind the windows of other...

I stayed in one of the apartments with another couple, the place was awesome. We had plenty of space, location was great, we will be recommending to friends and hopefully for next time we travel to San Francisco.

Stayed in the Inn on Castro in August in the green room for 2 nights and later the yellow room. Retro-style rooms which were impeccable maintained with comfortable sleep inducing beds. Each room has a brandy decanter which encapsulates the eloquence of this B&B.

Excellent location city-wise, being right beside a muni station, with a choice of a tram or underground to take you around the city. In walking distance of interesting neighbourhoods also.
The breakfast in the morning is the jewel in the Inn on Castro's crown! You will be relieved you didnt decide to stay in a dull, generic hotel downtown! Jan and his team are the epitome of what a host should be! By the sheer organisation of the breakfast table great conversation buzzes around enhancing the wonderful atmosphere already established by Jan and his team.
The food, which varies every morning, was incredible. Fresh fruit, cereals, yougurt, divine homemade bread and choice of a hot egg dish or savoury dish. We feasted on eggs with chard and toasted hazelnuts, beautifully poached eggs, delectable pancakes and sumptuous waffles to name but a few of the delights!

Should you pick the Inn to stay, you have made a wise choice for it is like no other experience! Im only envious you are going to experience all this for yourself as I would go back in a heartbeat!

We loved the place, super location in the Castro w/ fab access to municipal transportation!
Jan, Melanie, and Sam took excellent care of us with top notch breakfasts, conversation, and advice.
We had four very active days in beautiful S.F. and were so happy to come "home" in the evening to our elegant room (or rooms, as we stayed four nights in the Green Room and one in the White Room). Both rooms were lovely and well-appointed, en suite bath in the White was a luxurious plus, but no problems going across the hall from the Green Room either!
The other guests at breakfast were delightful company and a gold mine of travel tips from all around the globe. We consider the Inn on Castro our "home away from home" in S.F. and would return in "a New York minute".

With thanks and affection,
Tony Kastanas and Bob Bremerkamp

We booked our stay at the Inn on the advice of a colleague who had so much enjoy their time with Jan. It was our last night of a two week trip to the States and I wished we could have stayed for longer having found this wonderful gem. The suite we had (Hideaway) was aptly named, and perhaps not the pick of the place, but having street access and not having to haul our heavy bags up flights of stairs was a real plus and just some of the positives. There is a delightful small garden at the back, tastefully decorated lounge and dinning room filled with fresh and fragrent flowers, lovely little touches add to the over all ambience (books, magazines, cold drinks, and fresh fruit) and the best breakfast we had in the whole trip. Just a few steps away from the Market and Castro St intersection, it is perfectly placed to explore the Castro neighbourhood with ready access to a great range of shops, cafes and bars - and the F Line street car to take you down to the waterfront area of San Francisco. We'd happily return again (and book the suite by the garden). Many thanks to Jan and his fabulously friendly staff.

Room Tip: Garden suite at the back has street access, privacy and a pretty outlook
