We spent 5 nights at the Douglass Street Apartment (a 2 bedroom - 1 1/2 bath apt - part of the Inn on Castro) and had a wonderful time, for our wedding day (Jul 3rd) and my birthday (Jul 5th). We had a quite deck out back that was perfect to entertain quests and a lovely garden below that we took pictures in before our ceremony. Had great parking around this unit. Jan was helpful in giving suggestions on places to eat, and dry cleaners. Several of the restaurants that were on the list that he gave us were excellent and we will definitely try again next time we are there.

We just spent 3 nights at inn on castro and was treated to the delightful care extended by Jan.Access to sights easily done using the Muni. Jan presented a delicious and varied breakfast every morning with great attention to detail, this made for all guests lingering and a sociable start to the day. Well done Jan and your team .x Regards Sheila

Room Tip: Might be better not to be facing main road.

This is the closest to staying as a friend in someone's home that I've ever felt in a B&B. Jan was delightful and a great conversationalist. He told me he's been doing this for 33 years, so I'm sure that he could give quite a history of his time in the Castro. The only drawback, that you should be aware of, is that they "close and go to bed" at 8 pm, and they were pretty clear with me that they prefer no late check-ins. Once you check in, of course, then you've got the key and can come and go as you please. They provide a list of area restaurants that they like, grouped by both price and distance, and they have plenty of advice about other things to see and do in SF. Breakfast was delicious, and eaten at one large table, witch really facilitates conversation with folks. There was a great mix of European and American guests when I was there. I felt very comfortable staying there as a single woman.

Room Tip: My room facing Castro St had a bit of street noise, but don't worry, they supply good earplugs...

Luxurious accommodation with all the benefits from staff with years of experience meeting the needs of travellers. A most convenient and comfortable base from which to explore San Francisco. Great breakfasts, genuinely friendly staff and great local advice. One of the best places to stay.

Room Tip: We loved the white room

I had a really nice trip to San Francsico Mid June 2014. The Apartment was just perfect for my needs. Clean and well maintained with all the facilities I could wish for.The Garden patio was really nice to sit in and chill out after a hectic day of exploring. The Apartment is easily reached after check-in at Inn on Castro and perfectly located for Public Transport / Access to Castro Street and early morning walks up to Twin Peaks. Really good to spend a week living 'as a San Franciscan' with the ability to come and go to my agenda. Conveniently located launderettes and grocery shopping facilities
WIFI is included
Highly recommended

Really enjoyed my stay -- overall, it was an excellent experience. I stayed in the Green Room which comes with a small private bath down the hall. The owner of the B&B is very friendly, and the establishment really covers all areas for anything you could want during your stay. The room came with bathrobes, a glass pitcher, glasses, wine opener, and decanter with tequila, an extra blanket, a floor fan, a space heater, cable television, and free wifi. The bathroom was stocked with towels, full-sized toiletries, and a hair dryer. The hall offers a small library of books, a candy bowl, and earplugs (the street can be quite noisy at night as is typical of the city), and a mini fridge with free refreshments. Upstairs there is a dining area for breakfast (the breakfast is wonderful and there is a nice variety of coffee machines to suite your personal preference) and a common room for relaxing. Compared to similarly priced hotels in the area, this bed and breakfast is really a steal and is located in a great area. It's within walking distance of tons of restaurants and shops and about 25 minutes from the airport. Would definitely stay again. :)

Room Tip: The Green Room is one of the larger rooms and comes with a private bath (in the hallway). I'd re...

The Inn on Castro is simple amazing. The rooms are clean and well maintained, you are a block from public transit stops, and the community style breakfasts each morning are not only delicious but a great way to meet others and hear about their time in San Fran. The staff is beyond friendly and knowledgeable about the area and what to do while visiting. If you are visiting San Fran, you must stay at the Inn on Castro!

Room Tip: Rooms in the back of the building, i.e. off the street, are a bit quiter.
