“Six Days in San Francisco”
Reviewed 17 August 2014

This is a charming hotel right in the heart of the city. It is so quaint. We loved the decor, the floral wallpaper, olde worlde furniture, the fires and the spacious room. The staff were all very courteous and accommodating - nothing was too much trouble. The breakfasts were very good and we also enjoyed the afternoon drinks in the company of other guests. We whiled away some time chatting to other guests and staff members and this is what I liked best. It was a very friendly place to be. We did initially think it was rather pricey, but it was worth every penny and I would recommend it to friends and if I ever return to San Francisco I will stay here.

I wanted something quaint and romantic for our 20th anniversary trip to San Francisco! This hotel delivered everything I was looking for! Cookies and beverages available every day were greatly appreciated and we were also pleasantly surprised to find pop, water and a bottle of wine we had purchased on ice upon our return after a long day of sightseeing! It's the little touches that make this hotel a great choice!

This is pretty little hotel full of hospitality and charm! We loved our stay. Great location, reliable wifi, generous ice, water & soda, beautiful decor (love the door knobs), good breakfast, and excellent employees!

We've always stayed at the White Swan next door and am glad we gave here a try. Staff was so friendly and helpful. Bed was comfy and room was nice size with fire place. Breakfast fueled us for the morning with lots of options. Evening wine and treats was the highlight. Wonderful to talk with interesting people from all over the world. As with most old, character-filled inns, we could hear street noise at night. Did not bother us, but it may some folks. Highly recommend this old world charm.

Web site photos are very misleading. Our room was small and dark. No A/C, but we found that is typical of many locations in SF. The location was not convenient to public transportation, it was quite a walk up a steep hill with our suitcases. The elevator is old and creaky but worked fine. The breakfast buffet was tasty but not very plentiful on the weekend. The kitchen staff had difficulty keeping the dishes full and we had to make multiple trips to get a full breakfast as they brought items out sporadically. The weekday buffet was much better because there were less guests. Street noise woke us up a few times; not the hotel's fault but something to be aware of if you're a light sleeper. I would not recommend nor stay here again.

An excellent change of pace from the typical downtown monster hotels. Courteous staff, clean room and the furnishings demonstrate exceptional attention to detail. Fireplace in the room is a great added feature.

Everything you could want is right here. A lovely, European styled B&B with warm, friendly hosts, delicious hot breakfasts, freshly baked treats, afternoon hors d'oeuvres and wine. We had a fireplace in our room which was just right for the chilly nights. I especially enjoyed the homey comfort of the downstairs sitting room where coffee and tea was available all day.
The location on Bush and Mason is very central, steps away from Union Square, the Powell-Mason tram line, entertainment on Sutter St, shopping on Market St. If you are so inclined (ha ha) you can even walk UP to Lombard Street or Fisherman's Wharf.
