We stayed at the Mark Hopkins over the Labor Day weekend. From start to finish it was a great vacation. The hotel staff made us very welcome from the moment we checked in and could not do enough for us. We were upgraded to a suite on arrival. The concierge was super helpful and organised restaurant bookings for us as well as providing information on how to get around the city. Although there were a couple of wedding receptions at the hotel this did not affect our stay. The room was quiet and clean. We tried room service one night and the food was delivered promptly and was very tasty. The fact that the hotel does not have a proper restaurant as such was no problem. We preferred to check out the local eateries anyway.

This is an elegant and traditional hotel, elegant and comfortable. The Hotel staff is excellent with great pride and customer focus.
The hotel is located in Nob Hill so it's not accesible for everyone unless you take a Taxi or cable car.

We had a great stay here. The rooms were very nice, the staff wonderful. It was convenient to seeing San Francisco. The breakfast at the Top of the Mark was great, dinner not so much. Enjoyed it.

Where do I start... No one helped us with our luggage after the cab driver dropped it off on the door step of the hotel. Our rooms were not ready at check-in. And the booking price, booked directly on their website, was NOT honored. This hotel engages in Bait and Switch! Since our rooms were not ready the night manager said he would give us our first night free. Then 15 minutes later he denied that he said that. Night management promised that they would move us to the rooms we booked the next day while we were out touring so long as everything was packed. They also promised connecting rooms. When we got back from touring nothing had been done and the staff working at the front desk was completely unaware of the promises made the night before. And the connecting rooms they promised don't even exist. We moved our own luggage to our new room. No bellhop again. When my collgegues got to their new room, their room keys did not work. They were stuck sitting outside of their room, on the floor, with their luggage for quite some time. At this point, I complained. PEREZE [-] was the manager on duty. He was rude. His response was "well you are in your room now." Which was not accurate because my colleagues were sitting in the hall. We were given complimentary coupons for 2 drinks at Top of the Mark at check -in due to the fact that our rooms were not ready. When we attempted to use them, they were NOT honored. It was embarrassing to say the least. At check out we showed PEREZE [-] a copy of the confirmation documenting the price we booked on the hotel website. PEREZE [-] promised that he would honor it by refunding our money. It has been a month and a half. PEREZE [-] has not refunded our money or responded to any emails. Do NOT stay here. You have been warned!

We had such a great time thanks to the crew at the Mark Hopkins! Wonderful hospitality from the front desk to housekeeping services. This hotel has class with such great employees, always wanting to assist with no questions asked! Kudos to HR for their hiring techniques because this place is a gem. Customer service is their main concern.
You want to be pampered in a place with a VIEW this is it! 5 Star!

My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights last week. We stayed in a deluxe room facing grace catherdral (11th floor) Overall, the hotel was quite elegant and we loved the area for its views and safety. However, there are few inexpensive places to eat at and you will have to walk down to find a place. Walk down Powell and eat at Loris Diner for breakfast..pretty good price for breakfast. The walk back to the hotel is a bit of a hike so if you are are older you may not like the hike back up. The rail is $5 is one-way a bit pricey but we learned of the muni passport that you can purchase. We found out the last day.
The conceirge was fantastic at this help..very helpful and will help you book tours etc.
We loved that the location was great, down one street union square (sketchy at night) and the other way china town/little italy, but just the hike was a bit of an inconvience.
Would stay here again or at the marriott on powell, a bit down the hill and not too close to union square
