This older hotel has lots of nice character. Our room was obviously "older" but very comfortable and sparkling clean. Comfy king bed, 2 easy chairs, decent closet, frig (empty), small but nice bath, desk, no view, terry robes. We paid a very reasonable price. Evening turn down with chocolates and water plus fresh towels was a treat. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We like to walk so we didn't mind the top of the hill location, but if hill climbing isn't your thing you can grab a cab from Union Square for about $5 if the cable car is packed (as it always seems to be on the Powell line, anyway).

Room Tip: Our room on the 6th floor looking toward a building was very bright and quiet. A view would be nice, but we were looking for a bargain and walked the city for our views!

Our 2 night stay at this quaint establishment turned out to be a pleasant and welcoming experience. The staff were friendly and warm and its ideally located minutes away from the bustling city. the room was exceptionally spacious with a gorgeous city view ( whether it was day or night, with or without the fog). A great stay in San Francisco!

My wife and I just returned from a three night stay at the Huntington. Everything about the stay was first rate. Our room (1012) was large, nicely (if somewhat stuffily) furnished and in tip-top shape. The bathroom was huge (almost as large as our master bath at home), all marble and with a double sink. We had a great view over the southern part of the city. The reception desk and doormen were helpful and very courteous. We had breakfast at the restaurant and the food was good and the service better. We didn't have occasion to use the concierge service since we visit San Francisco frequently and know our way around nor are we pool/spa people so we can't comment on those items. We like Nob Hill because it is quiet but still near to everything so long as you don't mind walking up the hill. We would go back there in a minute.

I felt like I was in my grandmothers pre war apartment. The linens were gross. Small bathroom. Room amenities were antiquated.
I left after one night so I can't comment on service. I will say that the front desk couldn't have been any more understanding that we were unhappy and did let us out of our next two nights without any penalty. It does have an old vibe where the door man is a charming and knowledgeable older gentleman. I was just dissatisfied with the room conditions.

Dear Aaammmbbb,

Thank you for taking the time to submit your recent review of your stay with us. We clearly didn't meet your expectations in terms of our accommodations, and we sincerely apologize for that. I'm happy to hear that the front desk was understanding of your feelings, and that our doorman Al made a good impression on you. We will be undergoing a renovation soon, and I hope that you'll give us another chance in the future when you find yourself in San Francisco.

Thank you again for your honest thoughts, and have a wonderful day.

All the best,
Kellie

Few hotels feel as welcoming, I feel like I am coming home at every stay, particularly because of the very personal attention of the cheerful and very human staff, who generally are employed there for a very long time, so you see the same welcoming faces. The privately owned hotel's management and proprietors certainly know how to run a hotel, they have been doing it long enough, with a lot of attention to detail, and to value.

Room Tip: The bay view rooms are worth the extra cost.
