“A Welcome Return”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 December 2013

We returned almost 2 years to the day since our last visit, this time for a 5 night stay, and were delighted to see nothing had really changed. We were given a corner room on a high floor overlooking the Mark, Fairmont, PUC, Huntington Park and Grace Cathedral. The room, though not a suite, was massive by any standard. This place has an ambience which I hope the renovation will not alter. It's timeless, elegant and though the public areas are not what you'd call spacious the attention to detail and levels of service are beyond compare. We breakfasted every day at the hotel and had dinner there once. The food and the service are excellent at either end of the day. A special mention should go to Angie, who oversaw the restaurant in the mornings; she remembered us from 2 years ago and is the most polite, friendly and accommodating host you could imagine. This hotel has all the amenities you could want, is wonderfully situated away from the hustle and bustle of Union Square but is small enough to treat each guest as if he/she really matters. That's why we came back, and why we'll go back again just as soon as the opportunity avails itself. And what a thrill to be there this year during the America's Cup!!!

Room Tip: Being on a hill, you'll get a view of some sort but we prefer views to the front. Book direct an...

The Huntington is perfectly located on Nob Hill. The hotel has provides a nice personal atmosphere as opposed to the larger hotels in the neighborhood. The Big Four Restaurant and bar is a San Francisco classic, complete with a fireplace and definitely worth stopping for a meal or a drink. The hotel has plans to renovate in 2014. Our room was nicely appointed and roomy, but the renovation will improve the freshness. We had a nice view of the city. There was easy access to the Spa and the sauna and exercise room was complimentary to hotel guests.

Room Tip: Ask for a park view.

Excellent location on Nob Hill. You can park nearby at the Episcopalian church for 25 overnight. Bar is great but food is not cheap. Service at the hotel is well done and the rooms are large for SF. Also, a nice small workout area that has never been crowded.

There's a lot to startle you in this place--the food can be shaky, some of the rooms can be cramped, it can be ragged at the edges--but for those who prefer character to conformity and privacy to luxury, this is the best place to stay in San Francisco. I recently tried four luxury hotel in four nights around San Francisco, and the best by far (as in every stay I've enjoyed over more than 20 years) was the Huntington.

The beauty of the place is that its pleasures are subtle ones: the doormen who work there for 30 or 40 years, and can reminisce with you as the fog rolls in; the fact that the staff behind the Front Desk never seem to change; the way people from the Business Office will let you use their computer or printer if you're having trouble with yours; the quiet once you disappear into your room.

Many, many places around the Bay Area are slicker, more sumptuous and cool; but there's a family-owned warmth and unpretentiousness about this place that makes it really special. Sometimes even the things that go wrong underline what's so steady and engaging about it.

And the things that go right are wonderful: the rooms with a view over the park across the street; the elegant pens and touches of a classiness almost vanished elsewhere; the location across fem Grace Cathedral (and within easy walking distance of Chinatown and Union Square and Pacific Heights elegance); the size of the larger rooms. All topped off by the Nob Hill Spa, which is one of the loveliest sanctuaries in the city and suddenly opens the door on sunlit terraces, a gym, massage services and just a place to chill out and sip tea that complements the great facilities this hotel has always offered.

Some hotels dazzle you; this one simply makes you smile. And grows on you as a favorite, slightly tattered aunt might.

Room Tip: Try to get a room overlooking the park--and, at the very least, try to avoid one of the rooms the si...

The term "old school" can be overused...but not here..this is Old School..... Class!
From the moment you pull up in your Ferrari 458 Italia....not!.... a Ford Edge with car seats for our grand kids and a few random toys falling out as the coolest guy greets you with "I get it, you're on a get-away".

As we walked into the hotel they made us feel like we were the most important couple , in our case...we were!
After you check in a bellman will meet you at the elevator(s) with your luggage..he has one we had another and he said I'll meet you at your room.
We walk into the room and it's very nice, not big but nice. We had the park view on 10th floor and with the weather being perfect we could see for miles.

We had drinks there at the Big 4 before dinner and then a cab to Gary Danko's..back to the Big 4 for after dinner drinks.

I had the same observation about Gary Dankos, the Huntington is all about the people who work there, these are both world class establishments but the people who work there make that happen.....One thing, when you pay over $500 with the occupancy tax, parking, tax on the parking don't charge me $3.00 for a cup of coffee in the morning....come on....that just bugged me.

For our anniversary, my husband and I decided to spend a few days in the city. We reserved a junior suite at The Huntington Hotel. When we arrived, we were upgraded to a spacious suite that was probably bigger than many city apartments. From the moment we walked in, we felt welcome and appreciated. Our suite had a full size sitting room, a small kitchen, and our favorite feature, a window in the shower. Everyone from the front desk, to the bellhop was very helpful, friendly, and pleasant. We visited the adjoining Nob Hill Spa twice, and the staff there was equally as nice.. I received two massages and my husband used the indoor pool and sauna. We had a fantastic dinner at The Big Four restaurant, and enjoyed continental breakfast there as well. Conveniently located within walking distance from Union Square and Chinatown, we got in some exercise and sightseeing on foot. It was the perfect mini vacation and we will most definitely be returning in the future.

I have the distinct privilege of staying in this hotel for just one night on a stop- over to visit my daughter.

As soon as I stepped into the door, I was literally in another world of quiet elegance and understated charm. The receptionist at check-in, concierge, doorman were most attentive. I love the rooms with attention to details with all the necessary amenities in the bathrooms. The decor must be new; beautifully furnished inside a old, historic building. There were many magazines laid out for reading; it was simply a luxury just being inside the room without having to leave the room.

The breakfast service at the restaurant was a must for the experience of being in a rich surrounding with crisp white table cloth. I enjoyed particularly the emerald-colour leather couch or chair. It was formal and proper.

Walking around the spa area, swimming pool, outdoor terrace, rest areas allowed another view of this hotel. It was like a little oasis, so well hidden and was something one would look forward returning to another time.

Room Tip: I love room 1110, it's a big room, like a suite but without a separate living room.
