Loved the Chancellor Hotel! Just north of Union Square, it's close to everything going on but affordable. High quality furnishings, linens, shampoos etc. I really slept well every night, even the first night, which is not always the case in a hotel for me. I attribute this to comfortable bed, pillows, comforter and quiet room. My room had a huge walk-in closet as well. An older hotel but very well kept. I was there for a conference at the Moscone and it was quite convenient, about 10 minute walk. Other bonus that makes this hotel such as great place to stay are free wifi and free access to health club including a lap pool, classes, machines, etc. I used the club and it was just so nice to get a workout in. It's around the block so not on premises, but on the other hand is a nice perk for a hotel that doesn't have its own club. Free cookies in the lobby 24 hrs too! So many places charge extra for things, but the Chancellor was high quality and everything was included for the price. Another small thing but I liked it-- the windows actually opened. All in all a great stay at the Chancellor.

I would thoroughly recommend this hotel, very good value for money, good location, clean rooms, friendly staff. Short walk to the shopping area or to get on a team to other parts. They put a rubber duck in the room.

What a wonderful stay at your hotel. Upon arrival, we were greeted with warm customer service and our room had a bottle of wine with some delicious chocolates! A great start to the Christmas season. Our room was cozy and the view of UnionSquare, delightful! I'm saving the best for last....the beds were incredibly comfortable! We had a choice of pillow selection (around 10)! Wow!

Please thank your staff! We will definitely be returning.

We have been coming to the Chancellor Hotel for 7 or 8 years, ever since we moved out of San Francisco and only come back now to visit. We loved it when we first stayed there and have never been disappointed. Over the years most of the staff has stayed the same, which says a lot for a hotel. In fact it's a bit like Cheers for us now, with many of the employees knowing our names. :) Also, there are consistent small upgrades which just make our stays even nicer....such as the fact that all rooms have refrigerators now and all rooms have additional electrical outlets. The location remains wonderful--right on Union Square--where the cable car bells and other sounds of the City drift into the rooms. But don't worry, when you close the windows, the rooms are absolutely silent.

It's the only place we stay when we visit San Francisco. We can't imagine any place else being better. And as hotel owners ourselves, we appreciate the "family-run" feel of the Chancellor.

By the way, we have said this before and will say it again: Eat at Luques, the Chancellor Hotel restaurant. They have the best breakfasts in town, seriously. Every time we see people line up at Sears Fine Food, we want to tell them to go next door instead. :)

Oh, and always book directly with this and all hotels. You will always get the best rate that way.

We spent a long time looking for a nice yet not too expensive hotel in San Francisco. Our impression was that all cheaper hotels looked a bit dodgy and were located in not so nice areas. Anyways, it was money well spent and we really liked this one. We stayed for three nights at a room on the 10th floor. No noise from the street even though the hotel is right next to Union Square. The room is nicely decorated. The bed is really comfortable and we slept very well. We had breakfast both at the hotel and at the restaurant next door and both were delicious. We also went one night to the bar at the top of the Drake hotel across the street and the view is beautiful. The location of the hotel is excellent and we really enjoyed our time there. Highly recommended.
