“Great location good size room and helpful staff”
Reviewed 29 December 2013

I stayed here for 6 nights allowing me to see all the sights of San Fran. I requested a higher room with a view in advance that was noted and I had the 14 floor, room was equipped with toiletries, hair dryer, safe and fridge and complimentary tea coffee and water was available from reception along with cookies, my only comment would be that the rooms were warm and if you had the window open it was noisy so I would stay here over the summer as. I didn't see any a/c units. Apart from that great stay and would stay again.

The hotel is super clean and the staff is very helpful and friendly. They quickly moved us from a room with two twin beds to a room with a queen bed and a rollaway We found the rooms to be quite quiet, only picking up a little hallway noise. They are small, as the hotel warned, and with a rollaway bed to accommodate our daughter, it was tight quarters. The elevator is often busy during the daytime, so you may want to avoid upper floors unless you LOVE using spiral staircases. The associated health club is a few blocks away and check its hours before going over for a workout (as if walking the hills of SF aren't enough). You can't beat the price, especially for the location.

Room Tip: Don't get an upper floor if you are averse to climbing stairs. Rooms on the south side have a g...

Green Features: I would like them to be more explicit so I could follow them! We got the towel instructions, but I wasn't sure we sent them the message NOT to change sheets every day. Next time I'll take our recyclables down to the lobby :)

From the friendly service to the helpful amenities, The Chancellor was a great choice for us. We did not plan to stay in the room other than for sleeping, so size, view and decor were not critical features for us. The location in Union Square is very convenient--we walked everywhere, and in fact took BART to the hotel, a cheap and easy trip. We asked for a high-level room after reading about the street noise, and our room on the 10th floor was fine. We heard the saxophonist (a free holiday serenade!) and some street noise but to all of the complainers--it's Union Square, people!
We knew the room would be small, but were pleasantly surprised by a walk-in closet. The free WiFi and access to a nearby gym are wonderful. There were free coffee, apples and cookies in the lobby 24/7.
For the price, the service and the charm, we would highly recommend The Chancellor.

Room Tip: Ask for an upper floor with a view. Also recommend downloading the hotel app for checking in, direc...

Just earned our 5th rubber ducky. This hotel is still tops for location and overall value in downtown San Francisco. The rooms are on the smaller side and a little time-worn, but it's kind of like staying at your grandma's house. The bed is comfortable, the tub is deep and everything is clean. Nice added amenities like the candy jar and pillow menu only add to the experience. Great, friendly staff. The Luques restaurant is very reasonable and convenient for breakfast, and Mao always has a smile on his face. The central location at Union Square means you can walk to almost anything in town, from Fisherman's Wharf to the Embarcadero to AT&T Park. Mass transit is close by to get to outlying areas. When you include the cost of parking, this hotel is hard to beat for value, and is always a pleasant experience.

Room Tip: For a quieter night, ask for an upper room in the back.

The rooms were a bit small and not much to view, but who cares. You are in San Francisco and you are not going to bask on a balcony. Travelling with my husband and 2 young adult sons we were able to get two room next to each other at a great price and the location could not be beat. The staff was pleasant and service good.

We had a lovely time at the Chancellor Hotel. All the staff were welcoming and responsive to our needs! Harris, the doorman was right there to take our bags and the front desk staff helped us with restaurants. It's a family-run hotel and this is reflected in their pride of ownership. We ate breakfast at their restaurant and it was delicious. You couldn't ask for a better location at Union Square and we got a wonderful price for our room and parking. We hope to come back to the Chancellor really soon!

When I was looking for a hotel in San Francisco, I read some reviews about this hotel and I wasn´t sure. But once I have stayed there I can say it worth every dollar and more.
Perfect located at Unión Square and excelent service from all the staff. At the momento you get there you can notice that they give the extra mile while they offer you fresh wáter and cookies while you check in.
Excelent hotel, but small but totally comfortable romos.

"Amazing quality-price relationship" is the ultimate compliment. Every hotel's goal, regardless if it is a one star or five stars, is to be a great value.

Thank you for recognizing us!
