Location - excellent, staff - excellent......seriously there is nothing about this hotel that I didnt like. Right in the heart of San Francisco - great for the trams, restaurants, shopping. Loved the free tea/coffee and cookies in the lobby 24 hours a day - small touch but very much appreciated. Also appreciated the free wifi in the room - essential nowadays for the average tourist to help them make their plans. I would recommend this hotel 100%.

We chose this hotel based on the other reviews as well as the location. We were pleased with our decision.
The staff was very pleasant and accommodating. We requested a room with a view so they put us in a room on the 15th floor. The view was nice, however the room was a bit noisy at night. (The rooms do not have AC so it was necessary to sleep with the windows open.) The next morning I asked if there was another room available that would be quieter. They promptly moved us to a room on the 9th floor and our was great. Both quieter and cooler.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to stay in Union Square while staying in San Francisco.

This is a hotel with rooms that are nice, if small by American standards. The location can't be beat - right on Union Square with the cable cars running right in front of the hotel, and a short walk to Embarcadero. The hotel is surrounded by great restaurants, and the good food in the hotel reflects the local competition. Front desk staff was a little uneven - some great experiences, but one at the end that was not so good. But that would not keep me from staying here again on my next visit to San Francisco.

Room Tip: High floors to get away from street noise.

We stayed here for 3 nights, breaking our journey from England to New Zealand. We loved the location, right in the centre with Union Square outside and the cable cars going up the hill. It was easy to jump on a cable car and visit Fisherman's Wharf and the Golden Gate Bridge. We did find it a bit noisy - street musicians in the square playing until quite late in the evening, but I think you must expect that from a city centre hotel.
Being from England we love our tea and I was a little disappointed not to find a kettle or coffee maker in the room. However free tea and 'cookies' were available in the lobby in the afternoon and evenings.
The hotel staff were very helpful and we were given excellent guidance regarding trips out. Breakfast was extra and although good we felt it was a little pricey (especially when you add a tip). There are also plenty of places to eat nearby - including the restaurant at the top of Macy's which has a fantastic view.
The room itself was good and we had everything we needed.

If you want the perfect place to stay in San Francisco, the Chancellor is it. My family and I had 2 corner rooms for 3 nights. All the staff are professional and very friendly. Our rooms had everything we could need ( no microwave, but we did not need one). We ate 1 lunch and 3 breakfasts in the restaurant. Food was fantastic and so was the service.

R. Smith

Room Tip: I read that the corner rooms are a little bigger so that is what we booked.

While we do not have microwaves in the rooms, we are always happy to microwave something for our guests 24-7. Never hesitate to ask us for anything. If it can be done...we'll do it!

Thanks!
