My friend and I stayed here for five nights in April -- it was perfect for us. Roomy -- comfy beds -- great people at the front desk all the time -- hop on/hop off bus stop right on the corner -- walking distance to the food market and great restaurants -- just wish we'd stayed longer! We rented a car only one day and were happy with the parking situation at the hotel.

I liked the decor of the halls and rooms -- no crummy hotel "art" -- just softly colored walls, well-chosen lamps and nice furniture and drapes that gave a vintage feel to the place. The carpet was softer than the usual hotel carpet. We rented a fridge for the extra $5/day so had breakfast in the hotel and took some of the lunches with us.

Only down side was that though I'd made the reservations in February for April, we weren't allowed to request a room location until we arrived -- which was a late arrival due to a thunderstorm holding up incoming flights. So we got a double room almost on the corner of two very busy streets. It could be pretty noisy, but I guess we were so tired from a fun visit that the noise didn't keep us awake.

The price for the weekend we stayed combined with the pretty good reviews was what initially drew me in. When we actually got there, we discovered the location was great! If you were like us and only traveled by public transportation, this hotel is in an excellent location. Most of the places we wanted to go were 20-30 minutes away and the bus stops literally just steps from the hotel, the farthest being 3-4 blocks.

The people at the service desk were nice, I only dealt with them long enough to check in and check out, no complaints.

Each floor had an ice and drink vending machine, which he wished were more up-to-date, but yeahhh...

The room itself is very spacious and clean, with lots of drawers and closet space. The beds were comfy. The decor is old and outdated, but I got over that pretty quickly, as I was there to see the city, not the hotel. On your downtime, the TV has a good selection of cable channels to find something to watch. The WIFI is free and was easy to get going, but was somewhat slow. The neighborhood is nice, there is a middle school down the street. It felt very safe walking around. There are many shops and restaurants just around the corner. It's easy to go check out one area and have completely missed a bunch of other stuff nearby, so if you have time, be sure you go all around to see what the area has to offer.

Overall, great experience. Would recommend.

Room Tip: After seeing that the main complaint about this hotel was the noise, I requested a room opposite Lo...

Highly recommend! Very good place. A Diner called Mel's Drive In is open until late and very close to the hotel. Other then that, great restaurants near by!
Rooms are big and bed is very comfortable. Service is excellent! Every employee will make the best to assist you in whatever you need. My room was very silent.

Free Parking.

Price is ok but room is old- all wood furniture in need of new varnish, walls are completely bare of picutres, beds are comfortable, no flat screen tvs or hbo, no microwaves, $5 extra a day for refrigerator that is pint size with no freezer. Was on list of motels to get picked up at for tour companies and bus service is right here. Home Plate restaurant is 1 block away for great breakfasts.

Room Tip: We were senior travelers

We enjoyed a great stay here at the Chelsea Motor Inn, its on Lombard Street, great location for commuting into the heart of San Francisco, as its in a nice district.
15/20 min walk from Frishermans Wharf, 5 min drive.
Rooms were clean tidy and big.
Free Parking, Free WIFI, sadly no breakfast facilities and none particularly near by.

Room Tip: Rear rooms are a must, front are noisy.

When booking our stay we found the price to be great compared to other hotels in the area. They do charge a $50 booking fee which offsets the free parking. Why not just put that as your rate? We are not very picky and we know what to expect in SF. The room was clean and a little noisy as we were on the Lombard side. I can sleep just about anywhere so the noise did not bother me. Several nightclubs are around so late at night you can hear people around. The parking is great and plentiful. We felt it was safe to park our vehicle here. Overall the hotel is great for a weekend stay. We decided to pay cash upon leaving and the front desk clerk became irritated and was a jerk. So do not expect friendly service if you do anything out of the norm.

Room Tip: Noisy on Lombard side.

Lets face it,San Francisco is an expensive city.My girlfriend found this place and we were really surprised by the price.Yes,some things in the hotel are older but for the price and location you can't beat it. Its walking distance to some awesome restaurants and bars. Theres also a Bus stop thats close by. Secret tip-If your on the 2nd floor and your changing your clothes make sure you keep the curtains closed when the double decker buses drive by! :)
