The place has lots of character and the staff is very helpful and friendly. The location is excellent. The minor downside is that the breakfast is a bit basic. Also, some of the rooms have connecting doors that don't damper the sound very well. If you have loud talkers next door they can keep you up at night. Over it is a great place though.

This hotel is very reasonably priced for one that is so central and with a lot of accessible public transport routes. The staff on the desk could not have been more helpful with directions and storing luggage ( as we arrived very early morning)and patient with our inability to get the shower to work. The room was very quiet , clean and a decent size, although the decor was quite dated.
There is a very handy trader Joe's near by and several restaurants and cafés . It is not in the centre of a tourist hotel area , which for us was a plus,so late at night walking back we did catch cabs a couple of times but it was fine during the day and early evening.
Within a reasonable walk of Chinatown, Japantown, the Civic centre and Union Square, although there are several hills. It is near the old cable car routes and near the start of the one that runs to the financial district so we were always able to get on.
The hotel offer complimentary wine and cheese which is a nice touch and there is avery quiet, pretty roof garden we only wish the weather had been a bit warmer although we did drink a glass of wine up there. The continental breakfast does not have a huge range but is certainly adequate with fruit, pastries, toast and cereal.
With a large bag the elevator definitely needs more than one person to hold doors so you can manoeuvre into it.
Having the computer in the lobby also meant it was very easy to print out boarding passes.

Room Tip: We had a room overlooking the inner roof area on the second floor, there was no traffic noise..

Cheap breakfast, good location, small&old rooms. Hotel located 5 blocks uphill from cable tram. Near pharmacy, grocery shops. Some rooms are narrow and just for a size of double bad. Personnel was helpful.

At $145 a night for a teeny weenie room with a full bed in a really bad neighborhood, you must be in San Francisco! The upside is that everything was very clean. The equipment in the fitness room needed attention and I didn't get to stay for breakfast because there was a line at 7:30 and I had to get to work. The staff was first rate -- very professional and friendly. Plus, there was plenty of little grocery stores close by.

We enjoyed our weekend stay here. The rooms are very clean and modern. Especially the dual shower heads in the tiled bathroom. The old style elevator was a challenge, especially when your hands are occupied with bags or other items.
