Owner description: From its vantage point overlooking the spectacular Golden Gate, Fort Point protected San Francisco harbor from Confederate and foreign attack during and after the U.S. Civil War. Its beautifully arched casemates display the art of the master brick mason from the Civil War period.

During our visit we parked the car at Crissy Fields and walked until Fort Point. It was a nice walk surrounded by beautiful nature. Unfortunately the Fort itself was closed the day we visited but the only fact of getting there and the views are well worth. It's also a great way to get closer to the Golden Gate.
Dress accordingly since it's quite windy there.

This is an very interesting place, and it is located in a very good spot for picture taking. It is open several days a week (check before going there) and they have an interesting tour. If the tour is not available when you are there you can look around by yourself. This is a "do not miss this one" place, even if the Fort is not open. Have a look in the gift shop as well. They have a really nice Civil War belt buckle for $5.....both sides and I have purchased several of each for myself and friends.

Have you ever got that feeling where that hair on the back of your neck is at attention? Ever feel like someone else in the room but no one is there? Ok I said my peace on that.

Fort Point is a place feeled with lots of history, Lots of places to roam and explore. Look around and look close. Listen and listen good. Great Travels to you.

Who knew that the underside if the Golden Gate Bridge could be almost as cool as waking across it! Be sure to include this fort in your tour of the bridge. You will have amazing views of both sides of the bay, as well as the city of San Fran and Alcatraz island. The fort is interesting in itself, and offers some great photo ops. Plus you get amazing views of the structure of the bridge which is absolutely amazing.
