We went to see the intimate impressionism exhibition, we were not disappointed. Many expressive works of art by top rated french impressionists.

This was my 2nd visit to this art museum with hopefully future visits to come. Visited to see the exhibits to include the Impressionist paintings from the National Gallery of Art and the Matisse paintings from the SFMOMA. The drive and scenery are also a plus when driving to the museum via Lincoln Blvd along the bay coast.

Recently visited to see the Mellon Impressionist exhibit from the National Gallery. How were they able to pull that one off? The permanent collection was as impressive as others we have seen in large cities, and well worth the price of admission in itself. The exhibits are well organized and the docents knowledgable. The museum is located on a beautiful hillside and is designed in the classic style. You could spend the day here (and we did), so bring your picnic lunch for the grass area and view, or bring your wallet for the cafe. Pricey but excellent quality.

The Legion of Honor is often an overlooked museum in San Francisco because of its somewhat remote location on a hill overlooking the San Francisco Bay and Marin Headlands. Nonetheless, it's a museum that should not be missed, not only because of its beautiful grounds and spectacular views not available in many places in San Francisco, but also its surprisingly extensive Rodin exhibit, permanent collection of paintings and special exhibits. Visit early in the day, since its location does not seem to discourage crowds. Accessible to people with disabilities. Museum shop contains a good selection of books and souvenirs. Parking on site.

Legion of Honor has a good number of painting and sculpture exhibits on 2 floors, focusing on European art. It also has a nice Rodin sculptures collection.

In addition, with the SFMOMA currently under renovation (reopen in 2016), the Matisse collection is displayed here.

You can travel from the south through the golf club, or from the north end. Both arrive at the solemn columns with the prominent The Thinker right there to greet you with the backdrop of Lands End and the ocean.

There is a cafe with a patio outside. Drinks were the usual prices but the food was a bit pricey (the chocolate mousse cake I had was of rich good taste, however.)

After the visit, if you stroll down the road towards the east, you will find the picturesque Golden Gate Bridge from afar as well as Baker Beach.
