Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites San Francisco Fisherman's Wharf
Ranked #45 of 229 Hotels in San Francisco

Reviewed 1 January 2014

The Holiday Inn Express Fisherman's Wharf is an amazing hotel due to its location. It is near everything making it unncessary to have a car and pay $45 a night for parking alone! The hotel is more than adequate with a nice basic breakfast included. The staff tries to meet needs although there did not seem to be a lot of staff at the front desk-- but we never had a wait. The Fisherman's Wharf area is expensive so the hotel is not cheap but it is worth the location and the hotel is more than fine!

Room Tip: Elevators are slow--pick a lower room and walk the stairs.

Rooms need updating. Very small. Odor in hallway. Thin walls. Subpar cleaning. Breakfast was carb heavy with not a lot of healthy options. Disappointed overall. The location was good and close to attractions and trolley. Front desk was mildly helpful. No bell men.

Dear Amy A, thank you for staying with us at the Holiday Inn Express Fisherman Wharf San Francisco and we apologize that you think your stay here with us is not worth the price. We are currently upgrading our rooms and we will forward your feedback regarding our breakfast to our Food and Beverage Manager. Because we are a limited service hotel, we do not have any bellman service available. But we still hope to see you back again next time after we upgrade our hotel. Thank you

Have just checked in to the Holiday Inn in Fisherman's Wharf as the second stop of a trip to California to be extremely disappointed with both the service and the quality of the room. Arrived to be allocated a room that had not been cleaned and the beds unmade. Eventually allocated a room that is dark and gloomy with scratched paintwork and furniture that is dated. The ancient heater in the room has to be seen to be believed!! A blast from the past not only in terms of the heater but the entire room. As a regular visitor to Holiday Inn Hotels I have never experienced such a poor service nor a dismal room in any other hotel in this chain.

This is a seriously functional hotel located almost in the centre of Fisherman's Wharf.
The team on the front desk are more than helpful and Gabriel out front is a complete legend.
Not always visible from the road and tricky to find in the car for a one off visit.
Bedroom was spacious, clean, modern in it's appointments and plenty of space in the bathroom to shower and make coffee all at once. Large desk, large television in a cupboard and a not so great view from the room. That said, you really don't spend much time in the room so bear this in mind.
As far as breakfast is concerned, out of the three days we spent here we attempted breakfast on the first day only and didn't even manage that. For a hotel of this nature, seriously, much more could be done for breakfast for the guests. Breakfast times and confusing, messy, noisy and highly undesireable. Yes there is another holiday inn up the road, but this chaotic start to the stay and the day, drags the hotel right down. That said, we had a great stay minus breakfast.

Whatever your travel circumstances or budget, you do not, repeat, DO NOT have to stay in this hopeless, trashy and low class dive. The worst part is, for the same or less money, the Marriott, Hyatt, Radisson and others await. They are all equally or better located. And none look down on their "guests" [mostly budget-conscious families] with utter disgust. Don't be taken in by the free breakfast. The plastic cutlery they [reluctantly] provide is more nutritious. The rooms are pokey and grubby. And the facilities are Route 66 truck-stop all the way - if that.
To make my point, the Hi Express rate was around $ 175.00. For the identical dates, Hyatt were charging $ 123.00. Sheraton, $ 139.00. Marriott, $ 149.00 - I could go on.
It's sister hotel, The Holiday Inn, isn't much better.
In case you're wondering, I left immediately and checked-in elsewhere.
You and/or your family, deserve better. As for this hotel, it deserves nothing.

It's a good value for buck given the location in a nice neighborhood of SF. From the hotel you can easily visit Fisherman's Wharf, go jogg by the the sea side, rent a bike and tour the Golden Gate, have a good bite in the restaurants around. Bonus: a great danish bakery just in front, great for breakfast.
Apart from that, it's the regular Holiday Inn: nothing fancy, but clean, functional and comfy.
Note that if you travel by car, it's difficult to find free parking in the area so we paid extra to use the hotel's parking.

This hotel was very close to Fishermans Wharf - if your wanting to do an Alcatraz tour then the pier is about 10-15min walk away, but very close to all the restaurants

We also did a hop on hop off tour with Grayline - which was on the corner from the hotel - then buses weren't all that great - it was cold and windy and we sat in the top deck where it was open for photos but after freezing we went downstairs and you couldn't take photos due to the advertising on the outside of the bus

The complimentary breakfast at the hotel was really good! (complimentary)

Beds were reaaaaally comfy - the gym was very basic with only cardio equipment. Hotel was clean, housekeeping staff were really friendly but did find hair stuck to the plug - hot water worked very well

Free wifi worked well

Had 2 free computers to check your emails etc and also print off information - there is also a big selection of touristy brochures

Room didn't have a mini fridge which was a bit of a shame, there is a 24 hr dennys around the corner but wouldn't recommend it - its a bit run down and found a hair in my burger which they obviously didn't charge me for after I told them

Overall it was good for our needs or staying in this area,
