stayed here for 4 nights March 19th - March 23rd on our way to Hawaii. Clean and large room with kitchenette. Excellent breakfast buffet. Freindly staff. Location ideal only minutes walk to fishermans wharf, cable cars and streetcar terminus. Lots of buses about too but never used them stuck to cable and streetcars. Would stay again if returned to San Francisco.

This hotel was comfortable and moderately priced for the area. Stayed here for four days. The Fisherman's Wharf area is a seedy tourist trap. The local restaurants are like factories, shunting tourists in and out on the production line as fast as possible. I found the service in these places universally horrible. However, if you head north on the sea front towards the Golden Gate bridge you can have a pleasant two mile walk and end up at the Exploratorium in the Palace of Fine Arts -- well worth a visit.

Back to the hotel -- the biggest negative was 32 dollars (plus tax) daily for parking. Otherwise, rooms were comfortable and well appointed.

The hotel and staff were wonderful. Our rooms were exactly as ordered and met our needs. The location is great for walking to tourist areas. Parking fee of $32 was a bit steep but competitive for the area. Highly recommend this facility to others.

Don't stay here if you're looking for a romantic getaway.

This hotel is weird. The reception area is decorated in funky red and blue with modern furnishings and lighting. The bedrooms, however, are decorated in various shades of green and beige with matt finishes that make the room drab. Most rooms (except for family suites) face a "courtyard" which is small enough that you can see straight across into the opposite room.

But, if you're there just to sleep, the beds are super comfortable and bathroom is well appointed with a nice long bath and plenty of towels.

Breakfast is generous but hardly healthy and the eating area can get busy and noisey at peak times. Trays are provided so there is nothing stopping you taking breakfast back to your room.

The staff were friendly enough and the area is safe for walking around at night. I would probably shop around before I stayed here again. The room was too average for the price.

This hotel has good desk service. It also offers free internet access. It is a nice frill-free place to stay and shares its facilities with the Holiday Inn immediately adjacent. Local attractions include Alcatraz, a submarine tour and a Liberty boat tour.

Breakfast is a help yourself buffet which consists mainly of bread products and jam, doughnuts, pastries etc. although they do offer apples, oranges and bananas. It must all be eaten off disposable plates and trays so don't expect to see any china.

It is reasonably placed to catch the two tourist cable-cars and the boat to Alcatraz, but otherwise Fisherman's Wharf is a horrible collection of downmarket shops. Pier 39 seems to be more famous for the way it obtained planning permission than anything on the pier.

In March it is a windswept and cold collection of downmarket shops. I recommend that you stay in a different area of SF and travel to Fisherman's Wharf. The HI Express doesn't disappoint but it is a poor base to explore San Francisco.

If you have a young child and are going to San Franciso, the holiday Inn at Fisherman's walk should suit.

The hotel has an outside pool and you are in flat 1 minute walking distance from all the attractions at Fisherman's Wharf, with its bars, restaurants, and boat trips to Alcartraz.

Also, the area is flat so no hills to push a buggy up. Very close to the main tram station into San Francisco.

We booked with Virgin and they were perfect picking us up from the airport in a limosinine for no extra cost and the whole trip was effortless thanks to the very helpful staff on the plane.

My wife and I spent the weekend and were very pleased. The staff were friendly and the hotel clean and comfortable. Yes, this is a basic hotel, and yes the rooms are a bit small. We spent very little time in the room so it was perfect for us. Walking distance to 2 cable car lines, the F-line and the warf. Breakfast was good enough. For the price, I would definately return and would consider it great for the kids too.

TIP: We took the BART from SFO to the embarcadero station (30 min) for $5.15 per person and the F-line to its last stop (15 min) for $1.50 each. The hotel is 1 block from the stop. Taxi fare would be about $50 and would not be much quicker. Save the $35+ for dinner!
