Met by very helpful staff member with good advise on what hop on hop off bus service to use.
Hotel very clean and presentable with nice sized room. Every thing my wife and I needed. A nice 20 minute walk to Fishermans Wharf means that you can be there early to beat the crowds for the buses, cruises etc. Also passes the cable car so you can get on the first runs and avoid long waits.

Room Tip: At teh rear away from the main road.

Stayed for 4 nights. A couple of points for me were pillows too soft but that's probably just me, the elevators are a bit confusing they don't all go to top floors and lights work off a remote which wasn't explained on arrival but sorted very quickly reception and sorted very quickly.

Good points big room, fan kept the room cool during the day excellent tv, breakfast very good and staff really freindly and really helpfull. Excellent location for Lombard street and Fishermans wharf. Woul definitely stay again

Room Tip: Fourth floor high up so not much not from street traffic

We booked da Vinci Villa via a 3rd party website prior to our trip. Stayed there for 4 nights and the room was ok. Breakfast was acceptable--wait staff is Eastern European though, so none of them quite understand American hospitality. They were not rude, just no interaction with any customers except to take breakfast vouchers. There was an acceptable variety of food for breakfast--hard boiled eggs, breads, pastries, coffee, juices, bagels, etc. and you could make your own waffles, there was yogurt and "fresh" fruit. Some days it was fresh, others the peaches looked really inedible as they were brown and getting old.

Pros: We had a room that faced a side street that had very little noise, except on garbage day. No A/C so had to open window or turn on fan in room, but we had mild weather so this was not an issue but I certainly imagine it would be horrible in the middle of the summer.

Front desk was pretty helpful in giving information and maps to various locations and telling us about costs of things, recommending various public transportation, etc.

Neighborhood seemed pretty safe and there was a drug store just down the street. Beds were comfortable and the room had a good amount of storage for our space. Location was only a short walk to Fisherman's Wharf and other areas of interest.

Cons: the security there was a bit questionable. I'm not talking "security guards" because I didn't see any of those but anyone could walk into the hotel area and have access to the rooms without a key. That made things a bit dicey a few late nights.

We were mis-billed by this facility not once, but twice. We called the third-party billing provider and they said that da Vinci Villa was the one charging us more than the agreed upon charge. We called da Vinci and they said the taxes had changed from the time we booked (and were told the price) to the time they decided to bill us--I booked in April and they just billed us in September after having reversed the charge from April from my account. Additionally, they were not authorized to bill the credit card the full amount (but only the $100 incidental hold which was subsequently removed upon our departure). We could not get resolution on this by discussing with the front desk nor with the 3rd party billing company. In turn, we will not be returning and will not recommend this hotel as you cannot trust that you will not be billed more than you agreed to when booking the room.

Room Tip: Ask for one facing a side street.

We figured we were getting what we paid for when the elevator was slower than taking the stairs, the complimentary breakfast comprised of stale pastries, and the room had no AC or water pressure. However, the last night of our stay proved to us that we made a HUGE mistake. We got locked out of our room at 2:30am. We did not get back in until after 4am. We kept going up and down 4 flights of stairs to have the cards reset, but none would work. Finally a security guard came up with the master key, that did not work. They used a wire to break into our room (which took them about 50 attempts). We had to be up the next morning to catch our flight out, so we got about 2 hours of sleep. Despite my many attempts that night to tell them we should not be charged, the manager said we would discuss it in the morning. When we checked out he offered to take $50 off our final bill. That about amounted to all the taxes. When I told him it was offensive that he thought our time and loss of sleep was only worth $50, he asked me to lower my voice (which was not loud) because he said this is not something that "ordinarily" happens at the hotel, so he did not want other customers to hear. This place is NOT worth anyone's vacation time.

We stayed here during the last week of tourist season as part of a hotel+flight package deal. Location is quite good, short distance from restaurants, shops/liquor stores, Fishermans Wharf and other attractions and city centre. Hotel is clean and staff are very friendly, helpful, no complaints there whatsoever. Wifi signal weak on 5th floor, hardly any hot water at early hours (but comes on a while later) and worst of all is the complimentary breakfast buffet their restaurant serves. Burnt coffee and rock hard, weak-old bagels, very modest, unvaried food as an excuse for continental breakfast. No vegetables/salami or cheese but lots of rather unhealthy bakery products and sugar-loaded spreads/jams. One must choose either juice or tea/coffee, no water offered.

Choose another hotel in case you have high standards, otherwise not a bad experience!

This hotel is in a very good location and is within walking distance of many of the attractions of San Francisco. The hotel itself is clean and the staff friendly and attentive. The breakfast is good for an American hotel as we discovered in subsequent hotels we visited on our 3 week trip. Only gripe is there is no bar on the premises.

Room Tip: Front of hotel can be noisy with traffic.

We needed a place on short notice during a busy week in Francisco. The da Vinci had room, at a price higher that the room warranted at a less busy time.

Our room had no hot water. We complained and the maintenance man said it was because we were on the top floor and at the back so the boiler could not always get water all the way to the room. We complained and were moved to a larger room. It had water, but the lights in the room were barely adequate to read.

Location is good. A short walk to Fisherman's Wharf, and near the top of Lombard St.

The breakfast was free but very modest.

Room Tip: Avoid the top floor back
