“Great location”

This hotel is right on the edge of China town and was very close to restaurants and bars. About a 15 - 20 minute walk to Fishermans Wharf were all the city tours leave from. The hotel was clean but small and you could here the guests in the next door rooms. Staff were friendly. The room included a free continental breakfast which was ok.

Pros:
--Literally close to everything. Can get to the bars and restaurants on Columbus in less than 3 min along with Little Italy. We walked to Fisherman's Warf in 15 minutes and to the Business district for dinner in 5 min. Seemed to be a very safe area as well
--Staff was very friendly and helpful
--Hotel was very clean and orderly
--Bathroom was spotless and roomy (as far as hotel bathrooms go). Water was nice and hot too
--AC was quiet and powerful!

Cons:
--This was easily the loudest hotel room I have stayed in. It sounded like we were sleeping ON the street in Chinatown ALL night long.
--Possibly the most uncomfortable bed of all time. Wood platform bed with a single cheap mattress

Room Tip: I suppose you could ask for a quiet room--not sure that one exists!

This hotel is in a great location.
Being right on the edge of china hotel and little Italy you are spoilt for choice for food.
15-20 min walk to pier 39 area makes it so easy to get around.

Hotel was clean and staff were very helpful with underground secure parking at a charge.
The TV didn't work but we weren't in the room enough to complain.
Our room was on a side street so you do hear a little noise but it's not an issue.

Overall I would high recommend this hotel/location for a great San Fran stay.

My husband and I spent a night at the SW on the edge of Chinatown and we absolutely love it! It's perfectly located, clean, and friendly. It's an alley away from City Lights Books, a block from Little Italy, and an easy walk to the Pier. It's in a beautiful area, with quiet neighborhood parks, and wonderful hole-in-the-wall restaurants. The people that run the hotel are kind, and very accommodating. We'll be back!

This is a Chinese hotel, the Sam Wong Hotel, and there is a lot of interesting material on display in the breakfast area about Sam Wong's history and his family. The SW is right on the edge of Chinatown next to the Italian neighbourhood so great for both cuisines. It is run with quiet efficiency which is more than we could say for the noises outside our room in the night. We overlooked Grant Avenue and there was karaoke, screaming, drumming and general carousing well into the night. Earplugs solved the problem for us but possibly a room change to the inner area might have worked.

All hotel rates were very expensive while we were there as it was the Oracle World convention and the end of the America's Cup, so we paid a lot more than normal for this hotel, but we were pleased with it. The location just off Columbus Ave was really convenient for us as we enjoyed walking through the neighbourhoods and exploring the shoreline.

The room was clean and comfortable with two large beds. Storage for clothes hidden under the beds. Towels a bit on the thin and small side but plenty of them. We felt comfortable in the room although didn't much like the slippery bed covers, a personal preference no doubt. Also the fridge in the wardrobe gave a convulsive rattling judder every now and then. Breakfast included was an added bonus, a small selection of cereals, breads etc, juice and coffee and sometimes some fruit. A good touch was the large vertical map in the back foyer which was great for planning the day. The lifts were the most efficient we've encountered, always there when you press the button. A thumbs up for this hotel.

Great location on the edge of Chinatown and Little Italy. After our flight, we took the Bart to Union Square, and got on a cable car that brought us pretty close to the hotel. There are a couple of bus lines which run even closer. Every morning we were up and out early with all the Chinese school children riding the busses. This is located in 'real' Chinatown, not tourist Chinatown, (on Grant, a short walk away). Streets are kind of dirty and lined with shops for the local residents. Apartment dwellers hang their laundry out the windows. There is a strip club in the vicinity, but we didn't even notice it til the day we left. We never felt unsafe here, and we walked about at all hours. The hotel's lobby and meeting area are very nice and large. They have a huge, backlit map of the city in the breakfast area complete with public transit info. This was a great resource for us. Breakfast was very basic, but totally adequate for our needs. Two good types of bread for toast, two types of cereal,English muffins, croissants, jam, and butter. Decent coffee and juice. Staff were completely friendly, professional , and helpful whenever needed. Our room was on the 4th floor at the end of a corridor. It was small but clean and attractive and plenty of room to maneuver about the comfy bed. There was an armoire with flat screen tv and fridge with freezer. Yes, we had to plug it in, but it worked well. The bathroom was small and nice; my only complaint was no place to put the toiletries. We had air conditioning that was quick and effective; it was unusually warm and sunny while we were there. There was some street noise, but we didn't find it excessive. We had a great view of the new bridge from our window. It's lit up at night and very pretty. I had the chance to pass some of the other properties in this price range that we were considering and I was not impressed. I feel that this was the best choice for us, and we were totally satisfied with the SW hotel.

We chose this one based on location and price. Yes, the rooms are small but we weren't in them very much! Located right between China Town and Little Italy so great for walking, eating out. We walked easily to and from Fisherman's Wharf, walked down to catch the cable cars into the city. Walked to the Coit tower.
The room was clean and quiet - based on reviews we did ask for a back room. Nice shower, comfortable bed.

Room Tip: On the back was quiet.
