We stayed in 5 different hotels during our trip in the US. This was definitely the worst value for money on this trip, if not ever. Don't get me wrong though. It is a decent hotel. Old English style with a lot of carpets and old fashioned furniture. I have stayed in similar hotels in London many times. There they usually cost £50-100/night depending on the location. This hotel however cost over $200/night which is an absolute joke considering what you get.
At a reasonable price I would have been decently satisfied. I understand that property prices are high in San Francisco but are they really higher than Midtown Manhattan? We stayed in Grand Hyatt San Diego at a lower price than this hotel...
At this price I don't expect to hear my next door neighbour snore at night. I do expect to get warm water in the shower (not luke warm). I do expect to have somewhere to put my suitcase. I do expect a breakfast that cost more than one dollar that is not served on paper plates. And while the location is good the nearby neighbourhood is not impressive with nudie bars across the street.
Otherwise the good part of the hotel is the location. If you don't mind walking you have sights such as Fishermans Wharf/Pier 39, Coit Tower, Union Square, Lombard Street and Embarcadero within 30 minutes walking distance.
