We spent our 30th anniversary at Annie's in San Francisco and I don't think those kids from three decades ago had a better time on their honeymoon.

Our beautiful room was charmingly furnished with antique furniture and the bed was fit for royalty, which we were convinced we were while staying there. There is a small kitchen station outfitted with a microwave, fridge, sink, tea kettle, and coffee maker that is perfect for preparing a light breakfast. Otherwise, Annie asks that you don't cook in the room but, truthfully, if you come to San Francisco hoping to cook your own meals, you need some serious counseling. There are great restaurants and cafe's in any direction you point and many are in walking distance.

The bathroom is large and has a full bathtub with shower. There is an antique wooden vanity cabinet for the sink and let's not forget the wooden toilet seat that complements the vanity.

We couldn't have found a nicer tree-lined neighborhood or a more central location for all we wanted to do in the city. The cable car line is less than half a block walk from the front door and the buses can be caught with a walk of about a block and a half.

We were sad to say goodbye and are already dreaming about our next trip to San Francisco and a stay at Annie's Cottage.

Had a 4 week holdiay, ending at Annies Cottage in San Fran - what a perfect place to end our trip! Its a small flat in the basement of a house which is hidden behind other houses in centrally located Nob Hill - it felt like your own secret hideaway - a tranquil oasis. The cable car was a minute away and Fishermans Wharf a lovely 30 minute walk. It has everything you need to have a relaxing stay including a balcony which was perfect for breakfast and lunch. One thing to note is that despite being called a 'Bed and Breakfast', it does not include breakfast. Although with nearby delis, its easy to get breakfast together yourself (fridge, freezer, toaster, coffee maker, coffee and cereal are provided) or go to a nearby cafe.

After a week bouncing around central California, we ended our trip in San Fransisco. The cottage was in a great location, and was equipped with everything we needed (and more) for a wonderful weekend stay! The bed was very comfortable and the coffee was great. Annie was very accommodating and helpful. I would recommend this cottage to anyone!

If you are an independent traveler able to find your own way around and enjoy exploring a new residential neighborhood this is the place for you. You must not mind steps and hills either. We loved Annie’s Cottage and are grateful to TripAdvisor for bringing the cottage to our attention.

We arrived in San Francisco mid Friday afternoon having driven up from Cambria that day. We easily located Vallejo Street, Russian Hill and got a park near the cottage entrance. No one was home but we followed the clear instructions, opened the lock box for the key and walked through the covered entrance of the modern building that is street side in front of the cottage. You then enter Annie’s beautiful garden (see photo). The ‘cottage’ is located on the lower level of the home with steps to a passage entrance door.
We left our luggage, returned our hire car and walked back to the cottage, via Wholefoods for supplies – quite a walk but we had been sitting in the car all day. We then settled in for our three night stay. Unfortunately we did not meet Annie as she was out of town and a ‘house sitter’ lady was minding the cottage.

Everything about the cottage, from the large clothes closet to the cozy bathroom was comfortable, tasteful, clean and generous as described by the other reviewers. The sunny rear verandah was for our exclusive use and the entrance garden is for Annie’s exclusive use. It was a cool weekend in San Francisco, especially in the evening and we used the heating – very efficient. There were cereals in the cupboard and milk in the fridge; otherwise we provided our own breakfast supplies. The antique bed, although high off the floor, was wonderfully comfortable and the big room so quiet we slept very well every night. We used the free wifi internet following the instructions in the cottage book of info. The mini kitchen equipment included a microwave and fridge. There were generous quantities of china, glassware, cutlery etc. Annie requests that you use the kitchen only for breakfast. We did however use the dining table one evening for a fast food meal from the nearby Vietnamese restaurant (Aix Delices). We had eaten there on Saturday night and had excellent food and service. We also lunched at the nearby bakery/café – also very good. We used the nearby ‘Loose Sock’ laundry – modern machines and clean premises.

We requested late check out on the Monday but due to cleaning schedule that was not possible. However, on Annie’s (via phone) suggestion we left our luggage in the passageway, kept our key and were able to return to the cottage in the early afternoon to collect our luggage, leave the key, before heading off on our next adventure (a cruise). This was a sensible, safe arrangement. We would never stay anywhere else in San Francisco from now on if Annie’s Cottage was available.

How often can you say that the property is better than depicted on the Web site??

That is the case with Annie's cottage. The room is light-filled and decorated with antiques. There is a balcony out back which overlooks Russian Hill. This is a quiet, affordable getaway which no one would ever know exists. That may be a good thing for those of us in the know, but I must admit that I searched long and hard for an alternative to the pricey San Francisco hotels.

Plenty of shopping and eating two blocks down the hill. Also, we took a car and didn't have much trouble parking on the street. Most people would advise against the car because of parking.

The Hyde Street cable car is one block down and takes you directly to the waterfront.

Hands down, the best place to stay in San Francisco. Thanks Annie!
