Country Hearth is a small inn located steps from the Presidio, and a very short walk to bus transportation. It is a great place to stay if you do not have your own car; there is very limited parking onsite. As for the rooms, we found our room to be clean and comfortable (yes, a bit worn). Four of us stayed in a double (two adults, two children); the room was a bit small, but we didn't spend much time there outside of sleeping and getting cleaned up. We did have a problem with the toilet and shower, but the front desk responded quickly to our concerns.

I'm not certain it is quite fair for the hotel to advertise a "complimentary continental breakfast" when what they were really offering was simply coffee, a juice machine, and a box of donuts (which was empty one of the mornings of our stay by the time we got downstairs, well within the 'breakfast' time). But for the rates, I didn't mind not having a free breakfast, and there are plenty of other places to eat nearby. Overall we were satisfied with our stay.

There was no space for breakfast, we had to pick up food and beverages from the reception booth and bring it to our room. One morning there was no food and orange juice left, only coffee. There are 20 rooms or more and only 8 parking spots. I had to park on the street. Toilet was clogged, it didn't flush properly.

The Country Hearth Inn in San Francisco is in an ideal location. It is in the beautiful Marina District, adjacent to the gorgeous Presidio. The rooms are clean, quiet and well-maintained. There is parking on-site (a big deal in San Francisco!). The rates are very reasonable, especially considering the prime location in San Francisco. But the absolute best part of this motel are Trudy and Mike, the 2 people who manage the property. They are the most polite, friendly and helpful people that I have ever experienced,...and I have traveled all over the world. They will help you with whatever situations/challenges/questions you might have. They are both extremely knowledgable, courteous and highly-professional. You could not do better anywhere in San Francisco than staying with Trudy and Mike. Go stay there and I know you will agree!!!

Room Tip: Any room that Trudy and/or Mike recommend will be fine!!!

The location is great -- northern corner of San Francisco, with good nearby food and Muni connections to everywhere. (San Francisco is NOT a city you want to find parking in!)
This is a 1950s era budget motel. Good beds, clean if somewhat worn rooms. Friendly staff. The managers and their family do the day-to-day maintenance and the place has the feel of a smoothly run family operation. The facility is in good repair for an aging building that would benefit from an overhaul. Parking is an issue: the very cramped little lot is not big-car friendly (but neither am I). Getting out took a five point turn-around, and there are parking places for eight or nine cars in a dozen-room property.
Most motels in this part of The City are on the main stem of Lombard, but Country Hearth is one block away, and therefore QUIET prevails. Pricing is fair. We didn't try the breakfast, because one of San Francisco's great breakfasts is four block up Lombard street.

I spent only one night here until I departed to Orlando. The inn is located in Lombard street and near Presidio. It offered me a cozy room at a reasonable price. The indian concierge was a nice guy and informed me that shared van shuttles are not reliable. The shuttle was late but came to me at last, so I didn't take a taxi, which would be much expensive than a shared van. Even though I was here for one night only, I was aware that it deserves to more longer stay. The MUNI metro bus runs every hour around here, especially 43 will be very helpful for someone who want to go to the Golden Gate Park and southern San Francisco.

We stayed here for 2 days to explore san francisco. It is a bit away from the embarcadero but it is right next to the presidio park. Very convenient for an early morning run. It is about half an hours walk to the piers, quite doable. A few streets from the inn there are plenty of stores (union street), and many coffee & breakfast places. The inn itself is small, with too few parking spots but we managed to get one. Apparently there is free parking right by the inn in the street. The room was quite clean and well maintained, but a little dark. Basic breakfast was available at the main desk, which is a nice extra. All in all an affordable, clean and pleasant home base for exploring the city

Spent 4 nights here. This place is located at the end of the Lombard street and the price is very affordable for SF. Walgreen food/pharmacy is nearby. Bus stops to go anywhere are nearby too (1 or 2 blocks away). This is a 2 storey old type motel with noisy Amana air cond/heater (if you don’t mind). On 1st 2 days we took bus to tour SF as parking at Fishy wharf cost USD20++ as advised by the motel staff. On 3rd and 4th days, we used our car to move around. There’s coin operated parking on streets near Fishy wharf and other places that are cheaper than flat rate parking and nearer than the bus stops (if you have small kids in tow). The 3 days pass for SF MUNI system cost USD25 per card with no discount for kids. So for 2 adults with 2 kids, it cost USD100 (extremely expensive as compared to Paris Carnet, London Oyster or Amsterdam OV Chipkaart systems). The tram ride is USD6 one way (no discount for kids unlike most European cities that provide it). The bus ride is USD2.5 and valid for 2 hr transfers (depends too on how the driver tears the ticket to set the transfer hour).

Pros
1.Cheap for SF standard.
2.Big room with comfortable beds and pillows.
3.Near to every tourist destinations in SF.
4.Room equipped with TV, minibar (cost USD3/stay) and microwave.
5.Free breakfast (you need to carry 2 trays from your room and carry the breakfast to your room from the lobby).
Cons
1.Noisy air cond/heater (if you don’t mind)
2.No laundry facility (if you’re tourist, don’t go to The Missing sock laundry on Chestnut street as it uses card (the card itself cost USD4) to operate.
3.Very limited parking (maybe 8 spots, however you can park on nearby streets after office hours to next morning). Unless if there’s road works in-front of the motel (there’s one during our stay), you need to park far-far away.

Overall, a great place to stay in SF without breaking your bank. You can start your day with full stomach, thanks to the free breakfast (despite basic, its sumptuous). Will stay here again in next visit.
