“An oasis in San Francisco”
Reviewed 15 March 2014

We have stayed at the Inn at the Presidio four times since its opening. Each time we have enjoyed its impeccable service and its idyllic location. The rooms, the breakfast, the afternoon wine and cheese, the fire pit and nearby hiking trails make for a uniquely wonderful experience.
As soon as we return home, we work on organizing our next visit.

The Inn at the Presidio is a true gem.

Room Tip: Frankly, there are no 'bad' rooms at this wonderful Inn.

We were happy we chose to stay here. It was clean, comfortable and quiet. We had a car with us which was convenient to explore Muir Woods, Sausalito, Golden Gate Park, Legion of Honor. One night we met friends in the North Beach area and did not want to deal with parking , the hotel arranged a car service for us which was very convenient and very reasonable. There are great hiking trails behind the hotel. It was also a fairly easy walk to Chestnut Street in the Marina District. We felt this hotel was the perfect location.

Be warned that the Inn at the Presidio is off the beaten path as it is located in the historic Presidio park. If you expect to see the sights in the city using a personal vehicle the traffic can be daunting. That said the Inn offers a car and driver as well a PresidioGo bus service to certain parts of the city. The staff will help you in every way. The Inn is made up of a number of buildings restored from the days as a military facility that go back in time for over a century. All of the "rooms" are effectively, suites.

For anyone interested in taking advantage of the close proximity to the Golden gate Park and the Bridge or the close by Chestnut - Union St. Cow Hollow area, the location cannot be beat.

The only BUT in my experience is the fact that my wife and are fairly sophisticated travelers and expect a good deal from higher end facilities. Unfortunately, the Inn apparently solicits wedding and other groups to it's property. It was our misfortune to be booked at the same time a wedding with 100 guests! Noisy, obnoxious, mannerless, etc. The result was being awakened in the middle of the night and having to complain about the lack of courtesy on the part of these "party people."

In the defense of this criticism, I will say that the staff and management was exceptionally apologetic and did everything to accomodate us including a substantial adjustment to the bill.

In the future I will certainly avoid Inn at the Presidio when it is booked for "events" of a similar nature.

Room Tip: 3rd floor in the main building for large beautiful suites and rooms, some with views.

Our stay at the Inn exceeded our expectations in every way! The staff were exceptional, the location was ideal, and the atmosphere was relaxing and welcoming. We enjoyed the Presidio Park, and took advantage of the spectacular vista points for viewing the Golden Gate Bridge. The nature trails, museums (including the Walt Disney Family Museum), and historic landmarks were inspiring. The location is ideal, parking is convenient, and the evening wine, cheese, and open fire pit are absolutely inviting! We look forward to returning!

Beautiful rooms. Our group of 6 was housed in both the Inn and the newly renovated Funston House. Extremely helpful front desk with tips on where to eat out/visit. Great complimentary wine/cheese in the afternoon. Overall we had a brilliant short stay at the Presidio.

Wonderfully peaceful setting in the heart of San Francisco. The rooms are spacious and many have a balcony and/or fireplace. Evening wine and cheese reception as well as the breakfast spread is a treat. We took advantage of the outdoor patio and fire pit several nights. Trailhead access to nice hike with pretty, city views. Would recommend rooms towards the back of the property to avoid moderate traffic noise or guests going in and out of the front door.

Fantastic position, fantastic room, very helpful staff and wonderful breakfast. Bikes to rent and great advice on where to visit and when as well as booking. Would really recommend this, out of town but that makes it very relaxing and special. Suitable for children. There is a very regular bus into town. Nice to experience life outside of the hustle and bustle of the city. Less than 10 minutes to chinatown. Outside fire. Nice tracks to walk and views of the golden gate bridge. Close to museums as well. Definitely stay here again and would recommend it.

Room Tip: If travelling with children, get a room with a double bed and a sofa bed. Sofa bed very comfortable...
