It's hard to find a single fault with this hostel. Friendly staff, great location, comfy beds, excellent nights sleep, nice facilities, fantastic social atmosphere - the list goes on!

It's a small place and the rooms are set up so that everyone ends up in the common room chatting with each other (the kitchen and front desk are part of the same room). The hostel is mostly staffed and maintained by previous travellers, so they are really friendly and are full of suggestions for things to do.

At midnight the lights go out in the common room and those that are left either move on or go to bed. This is a fantastic system as it means regardless of whether you have an early night or a big one, you are ensured a good nights sleep. Everyone seemed to love this idea.

I was here for a few days holiday at the start of a work trip, and surprised to find quite a few other guests doing something similar. There was a diverse group of people there, so you are sure to have no trouble finding people to join you on whatever you want to do (which is great for solo travellers like me!).

The hostel is in a very safe area away from most of the noise of the city. However, it's just a short walk to get to most of the popular areas and a short bus or train ride to the rest.

The beds are comfy and don't squeak and there are lockers under them to store your stuff securely. Towels are free so you don't have to carry your own, the blankets are nice and thick, they offer a reasonably priced laundry service. They have free wifi or you can use their computers for internet access.

A great, clean and comfortable hostel in the centre of San Francisco. Very safe area. The staff is super nice and helpful, ready to answer all your questions. You should be prepared to climb the stairs to the 4th floor, but it's a good (and free :P) everyday workout. Wonderful atmosphere, definitely recommend :)

Pacific Tradewinds is an incredibly friendly place, we were even given free chocolate becauise Halloween was only 3 weeks away. The staff are incredibly friendly and cannot do enough to help with anything you need, the free tea and coffee on arrival was amazing considering how far we'd come and how tired we felt, it really made us feel like we'd hit the jackpot of hostels. There is always advice on the best things to do in San Francisco and the staff will elt you know how good the various attractions are and whether they are worth the money. You can even leave your bags for free all day on check out. Thanks guys, it was an awesome stay!

I've never stayed in a hostel before, but on a longer trip I needed to cut costs. I didn't expect much from a hostel, but it was clean and fine to shower and sleep. Staff were very friendly and helpful, location is great - in China Town/Financial District. The other guests were friendly and respectful, no one made too much noise. There are various events each evening, but you're not pressured to do anything if you don't want to. Didn't have to wait for the showers/bathroom at all. Within walking distance of Union Square, Fisherman's Wharf and the BART train station from the airport. Lockers under the beds are ample and secure. Minor downside - you can hear everything in the road outside when they unload trucks early in the morning, but it's not a big deal.

Brilliant location in the centre of San francisco. Felt really safe here and staff are very knowledgable about local area. Lockers are fantastic as they are rucksack sized. Other travellers also very social. Good pub crawl organised so you can meet people staying in other hostels too. Would definitely come back or recommend to others.

I stay in hostels often begrudgingly. I love the cheap prices but the drinking, late night coming and going and general dirtiness often puts me off. This place is different. It's still a relatively young crowd who like a drink here and there, but lights out at midnight and super comfy bunks means for a great night's sleep. When I stayed, everyone was in bed really early and until then we all just enjoyed friendly conversations together in the communal room. The hostel is really well kept, towels and linen are provided and staff are mostly very friendly and helpful - Courtney was just fantastic. Only two things - the dorms are mixed sex which I'm not a big fan of, and the front of the hostel is very difficult to recognise which caused initial confusion. But overall my experience here was wonderful and I would recommend it to anyone.
