Stayed for 6nights over Easter weekend. Nicely done out hotel, however sound travelled easily. Dissapointed when we were called one evening to ask us to keep our children quiet as there was a complaint from room below.. We didn't have any children a fact they could have checked before calling!
They had a wine hour each day but despite being in california near wine valleys the wine was imported from
France! Apparently because the chain imports wine for hotels world wide ... To me this just seemed to be them missing the point!
Staff were generally helpful but the traveling noise would prevent me from staying again!
The hotel also claimed it would offend if it celebrated Easter so pretended the holiday didn't happen!

Stayed 2 nights end of March. Located at end of Fisherman's Wharf area. Has very nautical theme. Rooms were good sized, CLEAN, quite, and very comfy. Free cocktail reception in the evening. Staff extremely helpful. Everything was with-in easy walking. There is a cable car "start" around the corner where it's easiest to get on since its the first stop. Would stay again for sure..OH, ALL Kimptons are pet friendly..

Room Tip: Go with a better view if possible

3 days of no complaints. The porters, desk staff and concierge could not have been more friendly or more helpful. Great local hotel close to everything. Last time we stayed at Sheraton and this is much much better. The only little negative is that we thought the nautical themed room could be a bit too much after a couple of days

We stayed here for 5 nights as part of a 2 week tour of the West Coast.
This is probably one of the best hotels that we have ever stayed in. Its located right on Fishermans Wharf with the cable car turn plate and Ghirardelli Square just around the corner.
The hotel itself is a converted cannery and externally it still holds its 1920's warehouse appearance which I'm glad they've largely retained. Inside the hotel has a nautical theme which isn't over the top, fits the hotels location perfectly and adds a touch of class. The staff at the hotel are polite, courteous and more than willing to assist wherever possible, making you feel at home very quickly. The hotel lobby whilst quite dark has an open fire and a comfortable seating area where free wine tasting is held every evening.
The rooms like the rest of the hotel are tastefully decorated, comfortable and clean with everything you would expect from a high rated hotel. The view from our room in particular wasn't great and due to the geometry and orientation of the building I think the view that you get is luck of the draw, bearing in mind that it was a warehouse at one point. This didn't bother us at all as within seconds of walking out of the hotel you are offered incredible views of the Wharf and Golden Gate Bridge.

This is a fantastic hotel in a great location. We wouldn't think twice about staying here again!

We stayed for 3 nights at the beginning of our holiday, based on reviews from Tripadvisor.
We would agree with most of the comments made about the Argonaut, as the hotel was very clean, the staff were very helpful and friendly, and the rooms were very comfortable. Its not the best hotel we've ever stayed in, but its a solid 4 star, and seems very suitable for American families. There was a small child in the room above us.
There is indeed free wine served every evening, but we found it wasnt for us.
The downside for us was Fishermans Wharf itself. Its full of neon lights, fast food outlets, and souvenir shops. Great for teenagers I expect.
It was difficult to find a classy or romantic meal nearby, where you could get a table. The best we eventually managed was Frascati a short cab ride away on Hyde.
This was not our vision of what San Francisco would be like ! and our first evening was very disappointing.
Luckily we had booked a walking tour of the city which showed us what San Francisco was really like, and how to use the public transport systems. I would highly recommend Urban Trek if youre looking to explore.
The Argonaut location is very convenient for visiting Alcatraz or taking a ferry over to Sausalito. We didnt think it was located well for the best restaurants and shopping.
We stayed at the Omni in the financial district for 3 nights subsequently, and found this better located.
It just depends on what your preferences are on holiday. I would recommend this hotel, but not the location.
