The Argonaut at Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco was a lovely place to stay. It is a very attractive hotel in a lively and happy part of the city and the facilities and staff are first class. Very happy to help. Lovely finishing touches in the room with a large window overlooking the activities at Pier 52 on Fisherman's Wharf, a very short walk to any number of restaurants, bars, tourist attractions, and a feeling of being in the centre of everything. Happy hour each evening was fun and full of good cheer and conversation and the super concierge, Donovan, is just a delightful, good fun and happy soul. We enjoyed our stay at this hotel very much.

Thanks, wwillow! What a nice and cozy image of holiday cheer aboard the Argonaut. I hope you got to enjoy some festive hot toddies at our nightly wine party? That will warm you from the inside out! I'll make sure to share your kind words with Donavan, as well. Take care and happy holidays!

The room was really great. The exposed brick, old iron support bracers, combined with the decisively modern decor was very pleasing. The view of the bay and Alcatraz wasn't half bad either. But what really made this hotel visit so exceptional was the staff. They were so helpful and friendly from the door staff to the front desk. Loved this hotel.

If you don't count on pools and you are looking for a good place to stay, in an excellent location, it is a 5 star hotel. Fantastic location for San Francisco, close to the main areas without being bothered by them.
Staff deserves a special mention, extremely friendly and helpful. Shah (or Chacha) really did his best to assist us.
Certainly would go back and recommend.
The only wrinkle is that they describe a "fleet of bikes" available to the clients. Actually, only two and some vouchers to the next rental store. I was advised to line up around 7:30 am (they start that service at 8) to get one. Not my cup of tea or expectation on that kind of hotel/price bracket.

Hello, time_to_time_too, and happy holidays!
I'll make sure to share your praise with the crew here, particularly Shah and all of his teammates and managers! Thanks also for the feedback our new bike program. It seems that since a free rental represents about a $32/person/day savings in our city, the demand can definitely spike, especially at certain times of year. I'm happy you still got to enjoy one of our six daily rentals. Did you get across the Golden Gate Bridge into Sausalito? I sure hope you bundled up!

The Argonaut was a great family hotel for our stay near Fisherman's Wharf. There's a Wii in the lobby for the kids to use while hanging out there. The staff were excellent, the rooms very clean and comfortable, great afternoon reception. This hotel is an easy walk to many area attractions-Ghiradelli Square, Fisherman's Wharf, Pier 39, trolley stop. A free maritime museum is also located in the building. We travel quite a bit and this hotel makes you feel a little 'spoiled'. We would definitely come back!

Hooray for attention to detail! Thank you, Kristine55374. I'm glad you and your family felt spoiled ("spoiled but not spoiled rotten as my mom used to say to me as a kid!"). The onsite history museum you mention does offer park ranger-led tours for free every Saturday and Sunday (excepting observed government holidays), and it's another great way to take advantage of our location and the authentic waterfront experience. The kids' scavenger hunt around the hotel is fun if the kids (or adults) tire of the Wii, too :). Come see us again! Thank you and happy holidays!

I am normally a fan of the Kimpton collection of hotels and restaurants but we had a few issues at the Argonaut. The biggest issue was the mattress. It was stiff but also had some kind of topper that left me sweating all night. Also the pillows were all quite firm. And no tea for the in-room hot beverages and problems getting the Wii to work in the lobby. So those are my gripes. What was good was the location at the 'quiet' end of Fisherman's Wharf, service and the Christmas holiday decorations, including a nice fireplace and afternoon hot chocolate.
This is a large boutique hotel, rectangular in shape with half the rooms facing the interior/other rooms and the balance facing the streets. The rooms are pretty large and there are fun jungle robes in the closet. Bathrooms are large with nice tub/showers. As mentioned, I did not get a lot of sleep due to issues with the mattress and the stiff pillow. Also the ventilation system (heat or AC) is pretty noisy. The hotel did offer $40 the bill for the discomfort. The front desk asked the kitchen to provide a couple of tea bags. This is San Francisco and there was a very strong sent of weed coming from an adjacent room or the hall. Security stopped by and apologized for the inconvenience.
The lobby is pleasant, has a nautical theme, fireplace, and was decked out with a tree for Christmas. There are some fun chaise loungers by the Wii game, but had lots of problems getting the Wii to work They also accept pets which is nice if traveling with your furry companion.
Overall the service was good, but hard to make up for a night of tossing and turning. I am still a fan of the Kimpton organization but was disappointed by this stay, especially given the holiday pricing.

Hi, Expat326! Thanks for your loyalty to Kimpton Hotels. I hope you are a member of our free Kimpton InTouch program? If so, we can make sure that your pillow request reflects "feather" instead of "foam." I have a guess that maybe you received foam pillows in your room, because the standard feather on our beds are very fluffy, and many folks even want to purchase them!
I hope that we will have the chance to see you aboard the ship again and get you a great night's sleep and a game of Wii, too! (I'm not sure what was going on with the machine that day, but it was working great yesterday for some pretty cute little kids in the lobby, so I know we're back up and running on that front!)

We stayed in the King Suite for 4 days. Beautifully decorated, very comfortable bed (we slept in every morning), great view out to the bay, AMAZING deep spa bath that we used every morning and night, quality toiletries, comfy couch and BIG tv, and lots of space!
The hotel is also excellently situated to explore the city being on the wharf and with the Hyde tram just outside.
Lovely friendly staff who are always smiling and a real credit to the hotel.
The only niggles we had were that we needed some laundry done and tried on 4 occasions to ring the number supplied (at different times of the day) but never had an answer, and when we first arrived the room had an over powering smell of odour sanitizer/freshener which was a tad off putting. We know that this is a hotel who accepts dogs and we wondered if this had anything to do with it?

Hello, Bec1968! I'm glad you found the hotel to be "lovely," and that you got to relax and catch up on sleep atop our pillowtops!
All of our suites have those deep soaking tubs, and 12 of them offer a view from the tub! I'm just going to have to look into those housekeeping issues. The laundry phone number must be having technical difficulties because our front desk team is very attentive to phone calls 24/7/365. Thanks for the heads up!

The hotel is located at the western end of Fisherman's Wharf, on Jefferson street, and adjacent to one of the terminals for the famous San Francisco trolleys. So, the location is perfect for not only touring the area, but also business. The Argonaut is part of a National Park-owned building, a renovated old warehouse from the 19th or early 20th century (adjacent to the lobby is a small museum dedicated to the Wharf, and also has a room dedicated to the various major national parks in California). The hotel is truly a lovely construct, with the original wood beams running through the building. The nautical theme is evident in both the common areas and rooms. The common areas are well maintained and the staff is very courteous and helpful. The rooms are also well maintained and apportioned, and I found them to be very competitively priced compared to other hotels in the immediate area. The heating/air conditioning in the rooms are controlled by thermostat, and work very well. There was ample hot water in the bathroom, with good water pressure. The bed was comfortable, above average for a hotel, but perhaps best for me was that the room was very well insulated from noise. I only found two deficiencies, which were minor, but easily correctable. First, the hypo-allergenic pillow is stored in the closet, as at most hotels, but was not contained in a bag, so it would be collecting dust, which defeats its purpose. Second, the remote control for the TV worked very poorly. As for food, there is a small bar/restaurant, The Blue Mermaid, connected to the lobby, a Starbucks is part of the rear of the building, and there are many, many other restaurants within walking distance in all directions. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone staying in San Francisco.

Room Tip: I chose a room facing the inside of the hotel, but I think all the rooms would be similarly quiet, c...

Thank you, PAtravelers7076! I'm so happy that you soaked up the interesting and unique history in our building, and in the onsite Maritime Museum. We are really lucky to have all of this character baked right into the place. I'm happy you and the prior reviewer enjoyed the quiet, as well. In the middle of things but away from it all!! Feel free to drop me a line with a room number and I can look into that pesky remote control. Thank you and happy holidays!
