“top notch concierge and fab happy hour”
Reviewed 10 July 2014 via mobile

Kimpton are always a good bet, but what we particularly liked about the Argonaut were the excellent, chilled-out happy hours, and the awesome concierge, Olivia, who off the top of her head pointed us to a tiny, off the beaten track, authentic and delicious sushi place that fitted perfectly with our location and evening plans.

I have just shared this fantastic review with Olivia the concierge and her manager. She will be delighted to know that her recommendation was a hit and made your SF stay that much brighter :)

I love this place, but the staff makes the stay. Great value and right on. Jefferson, walk the Wharfe outside the front door.love it! The rooms are super clean, $10 Kimptom Mbr discount on the mini bar or Blue Mermaid restaurant. Great service, great room, great staff and fun decor; sailor blue with all the Maurice theme

Thanks so much, jcrampton2! The staff will be tickled pink to know that they "make" the experience. They like to mirror the warmth and casual charm of the building, and definitely take pride in providing service that is helpful but never stuffy!

This hotel was exactly what we were looking for in San Francisco - close to the Wharf and many attractions! I have been to SF before so I was familiar with the area and knew this was where I wanted to stay. The service from when we arrived until we left was amazing. Everyone from the doormen, front desk and concierge were very friendly and extremely helpful. The room itself was very clean and had really comfy beds. The shower had great water pressure and there were many towels in the bathroom. We even loved the robes that were provided. Free wifi worked really well. The happy hour wine tasting (which was complementary) was an added bonus. The concierge helped us booked tours to Muir Woods - which I would recommend. Loved the Ben & Jerry's ice cream which was conveniently located next door. There are many souvenir shops and restaurants all within easy walking distance of the hotel. I would definitely stay here again and this hotel was a fantastic choice!

Room Tip: Higher floor

We stayed here over the Fourth of July weekend and very glad we did. It is right across from the Hyde Pier, extremely close to tons of walkable attractions. The staff was very friendly, they were fantastic about arranging taxis for us when needed. The decor was nautically themed and not too over the top, very fun.

Also there is an added bonus of the restaurant within the hotel, the Blue Mermaid, had the best chowders I have ever had. We stayed there for three days and had a cup of chowder there everyday.

Room Tip: Aim for a suite if they have them available, the standard rooms are a bit claustrophobic.

I have just shared your review with the Blue Mermaid manager and chef as well. They'll be so happy to hear that you loved the chowder so much you kept coming back for another fix! Those of us who work here have to pretend it doesn't exist. Especially the crab & corn -- so addictive...

Spent three nights in June at the Argonaut with my family of four. The hotel is in a great location - close to the wharf (but not in the middle of all the non-sense) and also within walking distance to many other SF sights. We walked up to North Beach for dinner about every night.

The staff is very friendly - and the doormen are fantastic with kids.

The nightly happy hour is great and very nice way to unwind after a day of sight seeing.

Only downside would be that it ain't exactly cheap, but is still a value in San Francisco.

Thanks a lot, Rob A! I'm happy to hear you felt the hotel was a good value, even by San Francisco standards :). I also like walking into North Beach (the flat way!) for dinner, and of course don't forget about gelato...

We enjoyed our three days in San Francisco at this busy hotel. It is in the middle of Fishermans Wharf and where all the buzz of the town is.
We did not use much of the hotel's amenities. We chose to eat breakfast in the local area (different place everyday). The foyer is welcoming and the open fire brings warmth and a lovely environment.

Hello, Sonia_London,
I'm sorry you didn't get to check out the restaurant this time, but glad you enjoyed all the restaurants for great breakfast nearby. The lobby fireplace area you mention is where we do showcase the nightly hosted wine party. I hope you got to take advantage of that at least!

My new favorite place! This place was little pricey but what an amazing hotel! My husband and two teenagers stayed just two nights and fell in love. The room was super cute and I'm already planning to redo a room in my house to match. The staff was fantastic, friendly and helpful. They will really give you advice on places to go and shortcuts to things if asked. They even brought us a complimentary goldfish for our room.
This is a great location for activities near Fishermand Wharf....Ghiredelli Square...tons of souvenir shops, restaurants, bicycle rentals, salons, whatever you like. We noticed they even have a couple bicycles at the hotel I think were available to ride. We were able to walk to Lombard Street and Chinatown(tho we certainly got our walking in as it was still a hike). While here for two short days, we went to Muir Woods, and Alcatraz tours which both were fantastic. There is so much to do, so just research ahead of time since there was more we have done with more time.
I can't complain about a thing, but did notice when we left by the elevators there appears there are some rooms with a view of only a concrete area. Luckily we had a view courtyard and a cute little restaurant. Don't forget to pack with comfy shoes and a jacket and sweatshirt. If you forget, no worries as there are stores selling them for $15-$25 and they are decent. I thought I was prepared but it was still cold and had to buy a sweatshirt. (52 degrees the morning of July 1).Don't forget to try a bread bowl , yummy!

You have given me a chowder-in-a-bread bowl craving like nobody's business!
I'm tickled that you loved the decor here so much that you'll be bring some of the experience home to your own furnishings. Neat! Perhaps even a goldfish, too :)?

If not, we'll have some guppy love for you here upon your return to welcome you back!
