“Trendy and in a great location! ”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 August 2014 via mobile

Our family of four arrived by car. The valet was friendly and efficient. Check-in was quick and easy. Mostly friendly service, but seemed rushed to check us in, even though no line behind us.
Overall an up to date room, clean, spacious, flat screen tv, mini-fridge, wi-fi. Added bonus: children staying in the hotel can request a fishbowl w a goldfish, for duration of the stay, to keep in the room. It was a nice touch for our kids.

Bathroom was large, however only complaint is no counter top space in bathroom. It is a pedestal sink, w a small square shelf next to it, which includes towels. Since there were 2 adults and 2 kids in our room, this tiny 18"x18" shelf did not accommodate even 2 of our 4 standard sized toiletry bags.

Disappointing: Day before our departure, we booked car service to the airport w/Max, the concierge. He assured us the car had been ordered and would arrive the next day. Fast forward to the next day, and our car never arrived. Turns out Max delegated booking our airport car, to a new employee, who did not follow through. We approached the valet and front desk, and they began making calls for cabs- for a 4 person can. Finally at the 11th hour a Prius shows up for 2 adults and 2 children w 4 suitcases. We squeezed in and the cab driver zigged and zagged to the airport, and we just made it. We were furious to have been put in this position b/c of Max (concierge) and his employee, but Frederick, the front desk manager did finally get us a car at the very last second, and paid for the fare.

Hotel itself is on Fisherman's Wharf, and is around the corner from Ghirardelli Square. If you are seeking to be in the middle of the hustle and hustle of FW, this is a great hotel.

I'm delighted to see you had a five-star experience aboard the Argonaut! We will have to share your kudos with valet and with Federico. I had heard about that snafu with the town car and regret the breakdown in communication, though I was glad to learn that Federico straightened things out and took care of the cash payment to the taxi driver. We will look forward to seeing you again for smooth sailing at the Argonaut :).

Recently stayed with our 11 and 13 year old kids. Location great. Right in fisherman's wharf. Concierge helpful and front desk staff amazing. Rooms clean and cozy. Happy hour every day from 5-6. Lively lobby. Very pretty. Highly recommend.

Hi, TamiD,
Thanks so much! We'll make sure to share you rave review with the front desk and housekeeping teams. Those ladies work very hard to keep the rooms clean, especially on a warm day like today! Hope to see you and your family back again soon. Best wishes for Labor Day!

Stayed here on two occasions for 8 nights. All the staff were excellent especially the bell boys and Brooke, the concierge, she was superb at helping us organise our trip and for reminding us that The Simpsons marathon was on. The free wine hour (soft drinks and beer available) between 5-6 was a nice way to meet other holiday makers and relax. They don't push you for it but they have a charity donation jar for the drinks you have and we often put in $5-10 per round. The room was spacious and immaculately cleaned every day, however, we were in a suite on both occasions and got wine and cava when asked. We had the Alcatraz view rather than the bridge view (as the bridge is a lot further away) and the view was superb. Hotel was very quiet at night even though it is on the wharf it also felt secure with 24hour reception and bell boys. We would most certainly stay here again! My wife and I avoided the restaurant as cheaper and better alternatives are elsewhere, such as: Hollywood Cafe and Mama's).

Thanks, Gareth S!
Brooke got a laugh out of your kind note. Apparently her roommate (another concierge) has told her "no more Simpsons for a while" :).
Seriously, though, we're happy you enjoyed the hotel and the fun wine party atmosphere. We certainly appreciate your support of our charity partner, Dress for Success!
Cheers!

We have stayed at several Kimpton hotels and always love their great customer service. We enjoy the fruit water in the lobby and the wine hour. They have free wifi and $10 minibar credit for members of their loyalty plan (which is free). This location is near the Wharf but not right in the center of it, which is nice. The room was spacious. Free coffee in the lobby would be nice (other locations offer it), but they did offer it in the room or at their restaurant. If you plan to go, check the rates often as they change. I got the rate reduced twice after I made the reservation. Also, they have a great AAA rate discount. Parking is very expensive. Check other nearby lots. The staff was very nice to watch the car for quick stops at no charge.

Always great to read reviews from our Kimpton fans :). I'm happy that the customer service lived up to your high standards for our group.
The Raid the Bar ($10) benefit is one of my favorite perks of the program, and it's also great that you can now get credit for dining in our bars and restaurants, or even from ordering room service (crab & corn chowder, anyone...?).
Hope to see you back again soon!

Stayed with my folks on a flying visit. Hotel is trendy and comfortable.

I was a bit annoyed with parking system. Valet is USD50 overnight, but there are free bays on the street 50m away. It was frustrating not to get clear information.

Breakfast was good, but restaurant was busy in the morning.

Fantastic location to walk around and feel the vibe, if a little touristy.

Hi, dbobrien,
Thanks for checking us out while your parents were in town! The situation with parking is that street parking is a sort of "at your own risk" affair where we like to caution folks to read the signs since the city does ticket and tow with some regularity :). That being said, it can be worth a shot given that prices for valet throughout the city are high and rising with real estate pricing being what they are. Ah, it's the city by the bay, though, and we still love her dearly!

This hotel could not be in a more perfect location! It is just a small walk from public transport is surrounded by lots of decent restaurants, however the restaurant in the hotel was fabulous! The waiters were hilarious and the food came out very quickly! The chowder at this hotel was amazing! You get a choice of several flavours and get 3 portions of yummy, fresh chowder! Some of the benefits to this hotel is the free wifi and free wine and beer hour every day in the comfortable lobby, which is perfect after a day sight seeing. I would defiantly visit this hotel again and could not recommend it more! I stayed here with my family in 2 large, clean and luxurious rooms. Really good stay.

After a long flight to San Francisco we were so pleased to arrive at this hotel. Absolutely ideal location situated right next to the trams and the historic waterfront. Close enough to Fishermans wharf and all the restaurants but far enough away to be peaceful.
Lovely to be upgraded and rewarded with a great view of the tram turnaround and the quiet aspect we requested.Staff and guests were very welcoming.
The happy hour was fun and we met up with a lovely couple from Philadelphia each night which was an unexpected bonus.
There are not many hotels which have a museum to look around, free drinks and free bikes (although we didn't make use of these - a nice touch). Will return to this hotel if we come back to SF and will definitely use Kimpton Hotels again.
