We arrived at the Metro very late on our first night in San Fran. We were met with a very friendly front desk attendant. The rooms were comfortable clean and affordable. The hotel felt homey! I had mentioned it was my boyfriends 30th birthday in the booking as the reason for our trip and they went out of their way to give him a birthday treat and a birthday card welcoming us to the city and signed from all their staff. It was a much appreciated and unexpected personal touch. We only spent one night here but wished we had stayed longer!

We had a lovely stay at the Metro Hotel. Our room was a perfect little haven away from the bustle of the streets. Shaina was so very helpful in terms of recommendations on things to do and see nearby and truly changed our whole trip for the better. Our only complaint was that we couldn't stay longer!

I stayed at The Metro for 3 nights in May 2018, choosing it largely because it was so affordable for San Francisco. Having stayed now, it’s clear this gem of a hotel is incredible value.

There was a lot to like about my stay, but the wonderful staff working at the hotel are what made it so enjoyable. Radiating warmth, so friendly, full of advice about San Fran & areas to visit, but also just happily sitting down & chatting with guests to make them feel welcome. They added a lovely personal element that is just lost on many hotels. I would stay there again based on the staff alone.

As to the hotel itself, the location to me was ideal. It is out of the main city area, but the Haight Ashbury area is a lot calmer & safer than the city center, & the public transport options so close to the hotel meant you could get anywhere quickly. There are plenty of great restaurant, bar & cafe options nearby, & the hotel is well located for a quick trip to visit some key areas like Golden Gate Park, the Painted Ladies, & the Castro.

I stayed in room 201. It looks out on the street but I didn’t find the light or noise too bad. It was a bit of a climb getting to the room as there is no elevator, but the hotel is very clear & up front about this on their site & in email correspondence & it wasn’t a concern for me.

The room was a little on the small side, particularly the bathroom. However it was well decorated & attractive, & immaculately clean. The extended bar/table with chairs overlooking the street is a good touch.

If you’re mobile & happy to climb stairs to get to your room, I would whole heartedly recommend The Metro. I will definitely be staying again if I get the chance to visit San Fran again in the future.

Pre booked this hotel months ago after reading good reviews on here. At the time of booking there were only a limited number of rooms left, and it showed you online which rooms they had with a description of each. The hotel was in the Haight-Ashbury area of San Francisco which is the hippy area. The hotel had a large bed and although the room was quite small, it had a wall mounted tv and a large bathroom with full bottles of shampoo conditioner and body wash. There are no lifts in the property so you will have to carry bags up the stairs. We arrived at around 2pm (an hour before official hotel check in) but the receptionist Shanna checked us in straight away and gave us vouchers to get discount on the big bus tour. She also recommended loads of places for us to eat and drink and how to use the public transport. She was so lovely and helpful. Would definitely recommend this hotel to first time tourists like ourselves.

We stayed for three nights, the staff was very friendly. They gave us some really good suggestions on places to eat and visit during our stay. I loved the outdoor garden, every morning we would eat breakfast there. The room was very clean. Also in walking distance was two grocery stores. Very cozy and fantastic art as well.
